Game overwrites my save

So i'm playing MC and save the game before a match, as i always do as a precaution against the ea's love for long-term injuries. i play the game and just before the final whistle, a player picks up an injury. game ends and i see an email informing me the player will miss 8 weeks. of course he will. so i quit without saving--frustrated that i just wasted time playing a full game in my career--only to load the save and see that the game has automatically overwritten my file, replacing it with an autosave just AFTER the game i finished.

this is getting ridiculous. seriously, does no one at EA even make an attempt to test play the game before launch? i guess we're all the idiots for continuing to by the game on release, knowing full well it will a half completed dumpster fire.

offline modes have been neglected for years and now you're actively making career mode impossible to play.

  • @sonofthepitch Very annoying - I now have a my primary save, a back-up save & a checkpoint. Checkpoints aren't separated so its easy to accidentally overwrite that too. I dont know why they "fixed" something that wasnt broken

@JoeTequila1800 Just to be clear - it always saves to the last save (not checkpoint). So essentially to avoid this 2 saves are required before every game & remembering which was saved first is important because that is the one that will not be overwritten.

The responses posted here are correct. This year EA developers decided to remove the traditional manual save from the past thirty years that also comprised three deletable autosaves, and replace that with only one save file, which becomes overwritten with every significant game event; entering a match, terminating a match, manually advancing days using the Calendar tab in the menu, etc. When starting a new Manger Career mode game, I append my initial save file (last step before advancing to the first day of the career after changing the settings) with a MS, short for 'manual save', then immediately create a second save file, and append the name with an AS for 'auto save'; i.e. AFC Bournemouth AS. The last file saved will serve as the autosave and constantly become overwritten, while the other file will remain as an original backup. This method is extremely cumbersome, because as you progress from the beginning of the career mode to the start of the first match of the season, a number of changes occur. Before entering the first matchday and after every match, if all planned events occurred as you want, you must manually save both files to avoid either not being able to recover from a stopping point, or similarly, having to recreate progress from a timestamp much farther back in the career than you want. For me, I manually save both files after every transfer market acquisition, change to club tactics (adding sheets, tactics, or player instructions), or advancement of more than two weeks, due to the number of crashes. Again, whoever devised this system did not properly think through the long-term implications for removing the traditional autosave files, and inadvertently forced career mode users (customers) to pay attention when saving files; always having to saving the backup file first (MS), then the autosave one last (AS), in my case.

Reminds me of playing Skyrim. Save twice ALWAYS. And OFTEN.

The change was unnecessary as everyone was satisfied with the previous system. No idea why EA likes to break working systems.

  • @sonofthepitch I had previously posted that I have multiple saves, but I have refined my strategy to deal with this insanity. I have a primary save "Team-xxx S1" and a secondary "Team-xxx S1 Backup". Before every game I save the "Backup" file FIRST and the primary after. This is important because the system overwrites the most recent save. Annoying, but it works. Its also possible to use a "checkpoint" which is never overwritten, but because those aren't front & center in the save menu its easy to forget & when you need that save its many games down the line.
  • Automatically overwriting user saves is absolutely absurd. Completely defeats the point of user saves in the first place. Just another example of tech product regression. Another is the slow, laggy menu that has plagued semi-online sports games for the last few years. It wasn't that long ago that I could whip my way around a Franchise/Manager mode menu in the blink of an eye. Now, you might accidentally do something dumb like promote a crappy 16yo prospect yo the senior team when you were trying to release him.
