Why is my pro clubs ai defending and passing so bad?

It’s so bad. Every time an attacker makes a sprinting run at the line nobody tracks him and it’s a 3v1 every possession. We concede a minimum of 4 goals a game due to this. 
Not to mention the passing, the AI can never make a pass in stride they have to take 2-3 touches before releasing the ball. And when they do it usually goes astray
