Perhaps the answer could lie in your player's rating at the end of the game. For example, if your rating in a match is less than 6.5, you get the coins for the game but not the Rush points.
that absolutely wouldn't work, countless games I've spent defensively and barely scraped a 6 because I didn't score or assist, they'd have to change their scoring system for that to work

Changing the scoring system wouldn't be a bad thing - currently, AFK players tend to score 5.5, just because they occasionally receive a pass. The scoring system should also factor in things like maintaining possession (or losing it), accurate (or stray) passes, and so on. There's things that can be done to not only improve the gameplay of Rush but also users' experience of it.
