Career Mode Bugs
Defender sprinting
This is a huge fundamental error to have in a football game. You are unable to sprint after an attacker in career mode as a defender. They do not accelerate or reach their top speed when chasing the striker. This occurs with nearly all setting combinations. The defender that is under your control appears to be walking or jogging. This is making the game unplayable for many. You can’t really get more broken than that!
Kit selection
It’s too easy to start a game with a kit clash in career mode. Kit selection was always a forced screen before starting any FIFA match, with players modelling the kits to be worn. This feature is still in Kick Off mode and works nicely... but is only visible in career mode if you navigate through the convoluted pregame menus first! Now you must go to customise settings. The 2D cut-out shirts in career mode are barely noticeable and you can easily press start game with a kit clash in place. I’ve had to shut it down multiple times due to clashes. I mean has there ever been a football game since the 90s where the players weren’t shown in their kits first before you press start game??
This is particularly a problem when playing in the lower leagues such as the Championship where EA have no third kits, since it’s likely you will need to change the kits around before most games.
Player submitted a transfer request
A player will often submit a transfer request after being rested for a game or two due to low stamina levels. Totally nonsensical. This is just another broken EA feature/ experience that offers no realism. Along with the poor stamina recovery rates.
Player transfer requests can never be undone, even when that player has full morale and plays every game for years after. You can’t renew their contract and offers come in for them each week even though the player is now happy. ANOTHER BROKEN FEATURE.
EA need to stop adding half features. It is creating more problems than solutions.
Stamina and Match sharpness
The game arrived completely broken in career mode on this front. There isn’t a realistic setting that works. All of my starting players have 0% or 20% sharpness after playing regularly.... Was career mode tested?
Player Edit Mode in Career
To start this section has had the same errors/ basic features for a decade. Ankle socks still do not exist! The graphics of all the limited accessories never change. Thick unrealistic sock tape and plastic looking bracelets etc...
Many of your saved customisations don’t show correctly in the game, if you edit a player’s boots who already has pre-set winter gloves for example, he will wear gloves in summer games. Yet ANOTHER broken feature.
Players that already have sweatbands or gloves often can’t have these removed in edit mode, so you are stuck with a sweatband, unless you do a ridiculous hack/ combination to remove it by adding gloves, saving, then removing the gloves, adding a bracelet and saving, then go back in and remove all wrist accessories... Simply to remove a sweatband or gloves. ANOTHER GLITCH and broken feature. Shambolic!
How some of these problems still exist is mind boggling.
Players edited to wear under-armour often wear long sleeves instead during winter games, even though that is not set in the edit player mode... their appearances don’t match between the squad hub visual and the saved edit player one. ANOTHER GLITCH.
Transfers
Players on loan with 6 months left on their contract can’t be approached on a pre-contract.
All incoming offers received for loan listed players are “loan to buy” so you have to negotiate or delegate every loan offer to receive a regular loan offer. This is tedious.
The negotiation cutscene manager expressions haven’t been touched and/ do not line up with the correct side of the negotiation. For example, it will look like your manager is reacting angrily to his own counter offer. MORE BROKEN/ HALF DONE “FEATURES”.
Post-game interviews
The post-game manager interviews are largely pointless/ basic to the extreme. It’s frustrating when you accidentally press to do one. Everything about them is odd and repetitive.
In-game commentary
Guy Mowbray describes goals as “scored by the substitute” when the player is not a substitute, no subs have been made and the game has only just started.
International matches
I had 9 first team players out of a key league fixture even though we have international breaks for this in real life.
Realism/ Immersion
My team earned promotion from the Championship in 2nd place and there was no acknowledgment of promotion in the final fixtures... The players walked off as if they’d been relegated. The commentators only talked about failing to win the league at full time even though we had just won promotion. No celebrations. Hilarious.
Consolation goals are celebrated the same as a winning goal even when there is no time left and the game is lost.
Player injuries are not realistic and do not feature normal football injuries. This is again so basic. Nearly all injuries result in Geoff Shreeves saying “he’s landed heavily on his elbow”. It’s not often we see elbow injuries in football!
Where do I stop.... the list is being added to each year.
There can’t be a team dedicated towards fully developing or testing career mode, even though it’s key to the games RRP (£69.99 minimum at release!) and a big reason why many consumers purchase.
All of the features in this mode feel BETA.
