Ultimate team - Intermittent high CPU temps - causing unplayable lag

I have a very strange intermittent problem when playing FC25 Ultimate team matches, which I will outline first and then post some screenshots  - so please bear with me.

I have a new PC with the following components:-

  • Intel 12400F with  240mm Apeiron Infinity Fan Liquid Cooler

  • Gigabyte H610M-E

  • Corsair 16gb vengeance

  • Kingston 1tb NVME

  • Asus 4060

  • 600W Bronze PSU

  • Well ventilated case with 3 x 120mm fans + the 2 fans in the CPU radiator

Everything was working fine until a couple of days ago when I purchased and installed FC25 so it may be related, but the behaviour is odd.

I can be playing the game for hours, with no issue, and can then go in to a particular game mode (usually to do with Ultimate team/online) and all of a sudden the fans start spinning at full speed, and the PC slows down to a crawl.

When I check the CPU usage it is showing less than 35% but the core CPU temps are all in the high 85c (room temp is 17c) and the PC has good airflow all round. If I exit FC25 the CPU usage drops but the temps remain the same and the fans are still running full speed. The System idle is 99% at this point but the temps do not drop.

If I reboot the PC, the CPU usage is around 12%, but the temps remain high and the fans are still going full speed. However, this is when the weird behaviour happens.  If I shutdown the PC, and then power it back on immediately, the core CPU temps are below 10c and the fans are basically silent. This behaviour is 100% repeatable - a shutdown clears it until the next time it happens, at some point when playing FC 25.

I have not witnessed the behaviour in any other use case, including playing other games for hours that are more graphically and processor intensive, so it does seem linked to FC 25, but I cannot understand why a reboot does not fix it, but a complete shutdown and immediate reboot does.

All other games - including FC24 - do not have this issue. I have tried putting all graphical settings to low, but the issue remains. Something connected with FC25 is causing these temps and associated lag.

In general use the PC can be on and in use for hours with no temp issues whatsoever, so again, it does seem to be related to FC 25.

I have carried out the general troubleshooting to no avail. My details are as follows:-

  • EA ID (PSN ID/Gamertag): Gravity17EA
  • Which platform are you on? PC
  • Are you getting an error message? No error message just severe lag and the game is unplayable
  • Does this happen when loading into a specific mode or performing an action in a mode? Intermittently, but mainly when entering Ultimate Team matches (offline and online)
  • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...See below

High temps after playing FC25 for a random amount of time (fans full speed, system idle process at 99%)

Hi temps after rebooting PC and not playing any games (fans full speed, system idle process at 99%)

Low temps after shutting down PC and turning on immediately (fans are silent, system idle process at 99%)

  • I want to make it simple by listing this bugs that i found in Ultimate team,I won't make new post for same problem so i am posting it here.

I hope this message helps the team @EA_Pulsar @RadioShaqs @EA_Vendcera

Subject: Issues Experienced in Ultimate Team

    Dear EA Team,

I wanted to bring to your attention several issues I’ve encountered while playing Ultimate Team:

Gameplay Freezes: The game frequently freezes for a few seconds, then resumes, causing performance issues and increasing temperature on some PCs.
Crashes: Occasionally, the game crashes and closes unexpectedly.
Graphics Disturbance: A white triangle shape appears intermittently, disrupting the graphics.
Commentary Sound: The rush mode commentary sound cannot be muted unless I mute my PC entirely.
Transfer Market Access: Access to the transfer market remains disabled for me and some other players, despite having played since early access.
I appreciate your attention to these matters and look forward to any updates.

    Thank you.

    Best regards

@LostShadow97 I don’t work for ea and have no idea about pc lag. Hopefully ea can give you guys an answer. This is how to articulate a problem with all the examples and useful info. I wish the ultimate team thread was as good as this one.
  • I have been having this issue since early access, after the first title update game was basically unplayable for me. Hopefully we get a solution bro, and if you do please do share it.

  • Hi,

I have the exact same problem. My CPU usage isn't that high, but the temperatures are skyrocketing, almost reaching 100°C.

The problem seems to occur only in the in-game menus for me.

For example, when I'm playing Moments mode, after failing or finishing a moment and the menu pops up, the temperature rises instantly. The same thing happens in Division Rivals when pressing the pause button.

The CPU temps aren't high at all during actual gameplay; it seems like the menus are consuming a lot more resources than the gameplay itself.

I have an i9-9900KF and a 2080Ti, and no other game causes the same issue with my computer.

I can tell that the menus are part of the problem because when I'm watching a video or a stream on my second monitor, pressing pause or navigating in certain menus (not the marketplace, SBC, etc., only the menus that appear with a 3D background/players/etc.) causes the stream or video to lag and stutter. At that moment, I notice the CPU temperature reaching 100°C.

Once the game resumes, everything returns to normal — the video or stream stops lagging, and the CPU temps go back to normal.

For context, I just changed my thermal paste tonight, but it didn't solve the issue.

    Hoping for a fix soon.

I'm also experiencing the freezing issue you explain. Particularly happening since the title update. Alongside that the game just goes very slow at moments e.g. pictures for squads loading 1 by 1. I've noticed when the freezing/slowing of game happens my CPU gets pegged to 100% whereas I don't have this issue in other games.

  • i have the same problem on Fc25 and do not know what to do i have a geforce rtx 4060 and a ryzen 5 7600x i can run other games fine with upwards to 350fps but on fc25 my pc is overheating and my cpu usage is at 50 to 70% including 75 degree temperatures and other lag spikes on my statistic  overlay it also says the game is not using my gpu at all and it is running at 0% usage so i believe the game is only using my integrated graphics and i have tried every i could nothing works
