Cannot make substitutions in game play on XBox 1 EAFC25

I cannot make substitutions during a match in Career Mode on the XBox One. Furthermore, when this occurs I can't even revert back to the game and resume playing without making subs. I am just stuck in Team Management and unable to do anything. I do a full restart and the first match seems ok and it all appears to have reset itself but the following game the problem occurs again and cannot progress without another Restart. Therefore, I can effectively only play one match before having to restart the entire game. It's hopeless. Also, the players under my control suddenly put the brakes on when chasing for a ball and consequently the opponent gets their first. It's like they have suddenly got lead in their boots. Really annoying. This is by far the worse version of the FIFA/EAFC games that I have bought.
