Career Mode - Free Transfers

When in career mode (Manager) and players are going into their final 6-months of contract, the game shows us we can offer a weekly wage to sign them when their contract ends, but there isn’t the option to do this - the only option to buy them for a fee. Can this be rectified? FC25
