Two evolutions of same player

I had an evolution of a player and wanted to evo another one for his gold card so I tried and it kept saying that I could not evo two cards of the same player. So I quick sold my old one and then recovered him when I completed the second one. Now whenever I try sending the other one to the club I get kicked off ultimate team and it says that they are duplicates. 

Has anyone experienced this issue and knows if there is a solution to it. 

I also tried applying cosmetics to them to make both cards types different but it still says they are duplicates.
