RTTF Mainoo in Built Different Evo

Havent been able to find a straight answer on this. My current understanding of live cards in evos is that the stat caps will apply to the upgrade. So if I were put RTTF Mainoo into the Built Different evo and complete the evo before he gets the upgrade, given united win, he would essentially not get upgraded from the win because all of the stat caps. So my question is, does anyone know with certainty whether or not if I put him in the evo but dont claim the FIRST level until after he gets upgraded, if the the stat caps in the future levels will affect the upgrade? My thinking is that because I wait to claim the first level until after hes received all the upgrades, I would end up with an extra boost to his defending. Essentially, I am just confused about whether or not the stat caps only have an affect for the specific level within the evo you are in or will apply across all levels. If anyone has done this before with previous live cards and can confirm what would happen please let me know!
