FC 26 Online Seasons is unresponsive, inconsistent and practically unplayable
I subscribed to EA Play specifically to try EA SPORTS FC 26. After approximately 20 hours of playing Online Seasons, testing different teams, formations, player roles and controller settings, I deleted the game and cancelled my subscription.
I am an experienced FIFA player and previously played the series at a high level. My complaint is not simply about losing matches. The fundamental problem is that FC 26 frequently feels delayed, unresponsive, inconsistent and unfair.
My online latency remains around 68–80 ms. Player movement, turning, acceleration, passing, switching and tackling regularly feel delayed. Players sometimes behave as if they are frozen: defenders stand still instead of tracking attackers or intercepting obvious passes, defensive midfielders fail to cover spaces, and attackers and midfielders refuse to make useful runs or offer passing options.
Defending is especially frustrating. Manual tackles frequently fail even when my player is directly beside the ball carrier. Second-man pressure and partial team pressure do not produce consistent results. Quick tactics sometimes appear on screen without producing a noticeable tactical change. Player switching cannot keep up with rapid passing, making it extremely difficult to select the correct defender in time.
At the same time, opposing defenders appear to lock onto my players and win the ball almost automatically with very few mistakes. They catch faster attackers from several metres behind, push or pull players off the ball without fouls and perform instant tackles. In contrast, if an opposing attacker gains even a one-metre advantage over my defender, my player often cannot catch him.
I tested both Tactical and Advanced Defending, the Alternate Xbox controller layout, two Xbox controllers and numerous gameplay and tactical settings. I also tried different formations and teams, including France, Real Madrid and PSG. These changes did not resolve the delayed controls, passive defensive AI, missing attacking movement or inconsistent tackling.
The experience feels random and one-sided: the opponent’s AI appears active and helpful while my AI-controlled players remain passive. Matches often feel determined by responsiveness and automated behaviour rather than positioning, timing or player skill.
I purchased EA Play to evaluate FC 26, but the persistent delay and gameplay problems made the service unsuitable for its intended purpose. I have uninstalled the game and cancelled the subscription. I am requesting a refund and asking EA to investigate Online Seasons latency, defensive AI, player switching, tackling consistency, off-ball movement, catch-up speed and unpunished physical challenges.
