Next, let’s talk about defense. I played FC25 for a year, with 59 seasons (over 800 matches) and multiple Division 1 Titles—so I’d say I have some experience with the FC series. But FC26’s defense is seriously flawed. Putting other issues aside, there are two main problems: 1) The removal of individual defensive assists (even more so than FC25); 2) The defenders’ acceleration mechanics are broken.
- Removed individual defensive assists: I practiced defense in skill training (1v1 against the computer, no goalkeeper). I noticed my CB would only mark by shuffling left and right in a straight line, while the opponent used consecutive SMs to spin around instantly (moving from my CB’s left to right) + a fake shot acceleration SM (bursting into the penalty area from the right). In previous FIFA games, as long as you held the B button (long pass), the CB would auto-track the attacker. Then you could decide to keep holding it (risking a obvious foul) or tap B repeatedly to attempt tackles and pulls (which might still result in a foul). But in FC26, none of this happens. Even when I hold LT+RT+B, my CB Romero doesn’t track the attacker—he takes almost one step before immediately lunging to the right to tackle, letting the attacker get away…Conclusion: If EA is going to buff SMs this drastically, can they at least improve defensive controls? When I input defensive commands, the defenders should assist with tracking, and let me decide whether to make a fouling tackle or keep marking! Does EA expect every FC26 player to be a QWOP master?!
- Broken defender acceleration mechanics: Same defensive scenario as before. Since SMs let attackers accelerate instantly from a standstill (100x more effective than pressing the sprint button), EA should either give defenders instant burst acceleration to keep up with SM-induced sprints, or add defensive skill moves—like the floor Thomas Flair from the movie Shaolin Soccer (yes, the gymnastics move)! At least that would be fair.
So, finally, I implore EA: keep your 999-stat Superman series and its accompanying fighting game-style input mechanics (also known as competitive mode) exclusive to competitive UT players—reserved for UT Mode and Rush Mode. Please leave us, the majority of football fans, with a realistic "mere mortal" football mode for Season Mode, Club Mode, and Friendly Mode. We’re just ordinary football enthusiasts, using video games to extend our passion. We’re not esports pros, and we simply can’t accept this style of gameplay.

Hi,
Eventually a well constructed post and not just saying this game is rubbish and then expecting EA to work with that.
Sounds like me in regards to being a Seasons player and preferring stock real world teams over the fake Ultimate Team dream team.
Skill moves eh? - They became a lot more easier to perform with guess what... Yep the arcade mode that is Ultimate Team. Sure it attracts those who then spend more money on this game. If I wanted to create a dream team I would play Football Manager where at least it is realistic (within reason).
Skill moves are ridiculous. And Ultimate Team ruins online in this game. The issue you have is you have people like myself and you by the sounds of it who understand football and realistic football patterns of play.
Then you have those who get it who then play UT and wonder why it is unrealistic. How Skill moves make no sense and the law of physics are just wrong. Then you have them on Ultimate Team who do not understand, watch or play football who play non football patterns of play. They play it like a video game and look for unrealistic patterns that the game allows for easy goals. Sweating 😓 there backsides off for shiny cards. Haha... excuse me laughing at them.
Then Seasons mode. If you find an opponent who wants to play football then you can have some decent games. If you meet someone who thinks skilling from kick off is football and you have put up with there garbage. I am a veteran of the game so I know when you are against a numbskull who will try this all game long. If I take the lead or score 2 I will just pass around and chuckle at them not knowing what to do. Since they don't have the ball and can't chain skill moves...yawn ZZZ...
Skill moves should most definitely have more error. But since Ultimate Team is the ruination of this game (Online) and EA cater for unrealistic boosted stats and chained skill moves we are all in trouble.
The best thing with Seasons is that I'm sure the majority do try and play some form of football. And sure, football can be played in many forms. Different tactics and different strategies. Ultimate team people dont play tactically or strategic. It's all about pace, skill moves and twists and turns to score goals... Zzzz....
I'd never play Ultimate Team.
Anyways.
Skill moves definitely need nerfed. Players should fall over the ball when running at full speed attempting this garbage. Especially with moves like rainbow flicks etc... Not very often someone could perform that at full speed with three defenders chasing you.

Thanks for your reply!
What a pity. It seems like not many players share our philosophy—only a dozen or so views and just two likes. Sigh...

We can only hope that they do and are just playing the game and maybe never joined the forums.
But the bigger concern is the amount who think football is skill moves from kick off. EA really do need to make skills less useful. Skills should not be so easy and should only work in certain moments. Football is supposed to be more about passing and moving. Working angles and picking your moments when to do certain things.
I love a good tactical battle with someone. I'm all about strategy and when to do certain things and to attempt different patterns of play. Strategic substitutes etc...
We can only hope there are enough of us out there.
These forums are weird tbh. You get more feedback to a post about boots having the wrong design or some stupid Ultimate Team pack not being good enough. That seems to be the biggest issues to certain members.
I dunno...
