[Gameplay Feedback] Manual Goalkeepers are still too OP – Clubs

Manual Goalkeepers still feel overpowered – gameplay feedback

Hi EA Gameplay Team,

I’m writing this as constructive feedback after playing many online matches since the latest updates.

Even after the goalkeeper changes, manually controlled keepers still feel too strong and often create unrealistic situations that hurt gameplay balance.

Main issues noticed
  • Unrealistic reflex saves from very short distance
  • Instant reactions that don’t match normal animation timing
  • Manual control still allows covering too many angles too quickly
  • Clear scoring chances are often saved in ways that don’t feel natural
Why this is a problem

When a goalkeeper is manually controlled, it sometimes feels like attacking skill is heavily reduced. Good finishing or creating chances is less rewarding because the keeper can react in ways that seem physically impossible.

This makes competitive matches less enjoyable and more defensive-focused.

Suggestions
  • Reduce reflex boost when the goalkeeper is manually controlled
  • Add a small reaction delay after manual movement
  • Reward positioning rather than extreme reaction saves
  • Make manual GK control a skill tool, not a guaranteed advantage
Final note

I appreciate the recent gameplay updates and the effort to tune goalkeepers, but I believe manual GK balance still needs further adjustment.

Thanks for taking the time to read this feedback.

  • Just to clarify: this discussion is specifically about the Clubs mode.

Clubs is the game mode I enjoy the most because I love football as a team experience, and I understand that a user-controlled goalkeeper should have advantages compared to a CPU goalkeeper — otherwise nobody would want to play that role.

The point is not to remove manual GK skill, but to make it more skill-based with a reasonable cap, so that scoring is still possible and good attacking play remains rewarding.

You can't be serious about your post Pro Keepers this year is the hardest position within the whole game with many bugs at the beginning of release a lot better now but still got bugs your issue is learn how to pass the ball

Also what they do need to fix is bot keepers because they're actually  shocking in all game modes and if you're struggling to score past them as well practise mode

Sorry if this offends you but really you can't be serious pro keepers have so many issues what need addressing

    FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIXXXXXXXXXXXX TTTTTTHHHHHHHEEEEEE GGGGGAAAAAMMMMMMEEEEEE!

Cant yell to your faces because your just like 1%ers up in your gated communities safe from the real world.  Listen to your fanbase that have played the game for years.  I went and played FIFA 16 AND FIFA 17 and they are more fun more realistic less stressful less automated animations and the graphics are literally just as good.  HOOOOOOWWWWWW!  How is this game worse than the same game a decade ago?  Do your jobs.  FIFA 16 and 17 are ten times better.  un*ucking believable

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I genuinely appreciate the feedback.

But yes, I’m absolutely serious about what I wrote. I never said manual goalkeeper is an easy role — I actually agree with you that it’s one of the hardest and that it had (and still has) several bugs. That’s not the point.

    The issue is balance.

Right now, even a medium-skill user-controlled goalkeeper becomes too OP for the overall game balance. In high-level matches, almost no clean shot goes in anymore unless it’s the classic “rat goal” (that extra pass across the box in front of the keeper) or some random rebound or deflection. Normal, well-built shots are being saved in ways that are simply unrealistic.

What I’m suggesting is not to nerf the role into the ground, but to increase the skill gap required to reach top-tier performance and to add a cap to certain attributes like reflexes and diving when manually controlled. Mid-level keepers should not perform like prime Yashin every match.

I don’t know which division you play in, but in Elite or in organized competitive tournaments between high-level clubs, having or not having a manual goalkeeper is an enormous game changer. The saves we’re seeing are often completely unrealistic.

Again, I respect your opinion. But if you genuinely haven’t noticed this issue, then either you’re playing goalkeeper yourself or you’re not regularly playing at a high competitive level. And I say that without hostility — just being honest.
