Mastantouono inside edge evo

I have 2 questions

1 will he get upgraded if I complete the evo and if so by how much 

2 what would happen if I put him in the evo but do not claim any of the rewards and then wait for his upgrade (assuming he does get one) and then continue with the evo 

which option will give the best stat boosts
