Critical AI Defensive Support Issue in FC 27

Hi EA

I am writing to report a significant gameplay issue affecting player control and AI support during matches in FC 27.

Since it is physically impossible for a human player to control all 11 players simultaneously, the gameplay experience depends heavily on a competent, responsive AI system for teammates not currently under manual control. At present, the defensive AI support is severely inadequate, resulting in a frustrating and unrealistic experience.

Key Issues Identified:

Lack of AI Defensive Support — When switching control away from a player to manage another, the now-unselected teammate offers little to no intelligent support: no auto-blocking, no tracking runs, and no logical positioning.

Exposed Defensive Lines — AI-controlled defenders routinely fail to maintain defensive shape or make basic tactical adjustments, allowing opposing attackers to run through the backline unchallenged. This leads to unrealistically high-scoring matches that undermine competitive integrity.

Poor Coordination Between Manual and AI Control — The transition between manual player switching and AI-controlled teammates lacks coordination, leaving large defensive gaps that opponents can exploit with minimal effort.

The AI defense being so poor makes the game unplayable.

  • I appreciate that defending has been made more manual. I think we're on the right track. Your point about defensive line shape is absolutely right though. The fullbacks position themselves terribly. I'll concede a through ball where the attacker was played on by the opposite side fullback being randomly 3 yards behind the rest of the line. If the AI controlled defenders are going to be pylons then at least have them position themselves in a way that isn't selling me out.

You might expect a not controlled player with intercept+ to get the ball that passes just inches of him, yet he walks like he's counting butterflies. EA just doesn't know how to implement something moderately. It's either full blown AI ultra defense, or nothing at all. If it would be a middle ground between last year and now; it would be ok. But now it just feels I can't rely on anything I'm not controlling directly.

  • I completely agree with all that's been said. Being a football trainers of everything from grassroots to senior teams I became frustrated really quickly with the lack of (artificial or any form of) intelligence from defenders I am not controlling. Central gaps between two cbs is the most annoying point here where players should keep the centre closed for inside runs and through passes they seem to have an open shop. They are not tracking the runs, they are not tucking and I get caught by this every single match. Add to this precision dribbling for attackers and I must admit I can't say I could be more frustrated with playing the game. Consistent cutting, turning and twisting inside the box without tiring with the above mentioned lack of Intelligence leads to less than lifelike and authentic matches. I get that the settings in Tactics play an extemely important role but not being able to adjust a players base position with the above mentioned major flaw in AI has taken away much of the enjoyment of the game. I often catch myself wanting to put down the game after only one or two matches as almost every if not all games lead to irritation by simple and obvious errors and less than lifelike gameplay. Please please please EA for the love that is 'the Players's game please adjust AI teammate intelligence for I feel you have done almost everything else right in the game but made a huge game ruining alteration in something which wasn't broken in the first place.
