Same old problems
EA FC 27 – Almost a Month Later, What Happened to the Gameplay?
I'm back with an update after almost a month of playing. Something has changed with the gameplay, which is strange considering that no gameplay update has been announced.
The game felt amazing during the first two weeks. Now, it feels like I'm playing last year's version all over again.
The gameplay seems much faster. At first, I thought this was simply because better cards had been released and players had improved their squads over time. The problem is that the exact same thing happens in the live "Back to basics" tournament, where players are limited to a maximum OVR of 81.
I thought it might be a formation issue, but everyone is using 4-4-2. I honestly don't know what's going on. My central midfielders feel almost impossible to control, as if they barely exist in the game, especially defensively.
Just like after one of the terrible updates in FC 26, misplaced passes in your own half happen far too frequently. Combined with the increased gameplay speed, one mistake often means you're conceding a goal.
Another recurring problem is corners. Just like last year, the opponent can win the ball and create a dangerous counterattack with only two passes. This wasn't happening when the game first launched.
Attackers are also hiding behind opposing defenders again and spending far too much time offside, just like last year.
Hitting the post has become incredibly frequent. This wasn't nearly as common during the first few weeks.
Goalkeepers are once again unpredictable and seem to lack basic intelligence, with plenty of ridiculous own goals. I remember saying at launch that goalkeepers had received a very good upgrade this year. What happened to that?
Defensive interactions are also completely inconsistent. Sometimes defenders make ridiculous fouls, while obvious obstructions are simply ignored.
During the first two weeks, I could build some beautiful attacking combinations using quick passing triangles. Now, that barely happens anymore. Everything revolves around counterattacks and spinning around in circles with your players until you find an opening.
Rebounds are another ridiculous issue. For example, an opponent shoots from more than 20 metres away, the goalkeeper makes the save, and the ball somehow falls straight back to the attacker through six of my players inside the box, leaving him completely free to score.
I understand that graphically the game looks almost identical to EA FC 26, but I swear that over the last few days, it genuinely feels like I'm playing last year's game instead of FC 27.
I really don't understand what's happening. The game looked extremely promising at launch, and for the first two weeks, I actually enjoyed the gameplay. It felt more realistic, defending relied more on anticipation, and attacking combinations felt much more rewarding.
Now, many of the same problems that made FC 26 so frustrating seem to be back.
If no gameplay update has been announced, what exactly has changed? Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
I really hope this isn't another case of a promising game gradually turning into the same frustrating experience we had last year.
