FC 27 PC: Ultimate Team error when using Xbox One controller

Hello everyone,

Since the latest FC 27 update, I have been unable to start Ultimate Team matches using my Xbox One controller connected to my PC via USB.

Whenever I try to start a Squad Battles or Rivals match with the controller, I immediately receive this error:

“Only the owner of this Ultimate Team can start game sessions.”

Here is what I have tested:

  • The controller works correctly in the game menus.
  • I can start Squad Battles using the keyboard.
  • Offline Kick-Off works after repairing the game.
  • The issue affects both Squad Battles and Rivals.
  • I cleared the EA app cache and repaired the game files.
  • I disconnected and reconnected my devices.
  • I deleted and recreated the local settings file.
  • I have always used the same EA account and Ultimate Team club.

None of these steps fixed the issue.

The fact that matches work with the keyboard but fail with the controller makes me suspect a controller input or player-session assignment bug.

Has anyone experienced the same issue and found a confirmed solution? Is EA aware of this problem?

    have exactly the same problem!

    Everything worked perfectly for an entire week until the latest patch (October 27). Since the update, my PS4 controller is no longer working properly in Ultimate Team Rivals.

    I get the exact same error message:

    "Only the player associated with the currently active Football Ultimate Team account can start a game session."

    Sometimes, after trying around 1000 different settings, reconnecting the controller, changing drivers and restarting the game, it randomly works again. But the problem keeps coming back, and right now I can't play Rivals at all.

    Windows recognizes my controller, and it works normally outside the game. This strongly suggests that something is wrong with FC 27's controller detection after the latest patch.

    Please investigate this issue. It seems that multiple PC players are experiencing the exact same problem since the update!
