EA, if you call this football, then basic football principles should actually matter.
One of the simplest concepts in the sport is this:
In possession, make the pitch big.
Out of possession, make the usable space small.
That means width and depth when attacking, but compactness, proper distances and collective shifting when defending. The current gameplay barely represents this.
Three-at-the-back formations are a perfect example. The issue is not that the outside CBs defend wide areas. That is normal. The issue is that they often move too far away from the central CB, creating huge gaps instead of the entire back line shifting together.
That is not tactical depth. It is broken positioning.
And the bigger problem is that we have almost no meaningful control over things like:
- defensive compactness
- spacing between players
- horizontal shifting
- line distances
- covering and defensive rotations
The game gives us formations and roles, but very little ability to actually build a tactical system.
It feels like the gameplay has been simplified for maximum accessibility at the cost of basic football logic.
Accessibility is fine. But this is supposed to be a football game.
Please bring actual tactical depth back into the game!
