Basic Fixes Needed
Consider this an open letter to the EA developers regarding game features that need to be fixed. Other gamers who share these concerns please chime in.
- Turn down the AI! — I routinely find myself arm wrestling my players as the AI pulls them one way and I try to steer them another. I suspect game lag contributes to this effect (despite my fast connection (28 ms)), but, regardless, the result is absolutely maddening because it ceases to feel like I’m playing the game—it’s playing me!
- LB/RB Freak Outs — Sorry, but there is zero real-life reason why outside backs should suddenly lose composure (with a red exclamation point appearing above the player) and suddenly boot the ball 40 yds out of bounds. It’s a feature/glitch that’s as annoying as it is stupid and it just needs to be eliminated. Let every player have a composure rating and if they come under too much pressure then maybe they play a slightly less accurate pass, but jacking a ball into the stands and having it occur to only certain positions (like my Dimarco—one of the highest rated LBs in the game!) is beyond ridiculous.
- Defending Throw-Ins — When the ball goes out the game initially prevents the defending team from pre-positioning players for the impending throw-in. This is neither realistic nor fun. It leads to undefended throw-ins that simply don’t happen in any real match.
- Free Kicks — Two things: (1) There are currently WAY too many “quick kicks.” These rarely occur in real games because opposing teams almost immediately position a player over the ball to delay the restart. Similar to throw-ins, the game doesn’t allow the defending team to gain immediate control of its players after the foul is called, so allowing a snap restart creates an unrealistic (and annoying) advantage that simply doesn’t occur with any regularity in real life. (2) The accuracy of free kicks bent around walls is absolutely BROKEN! These balls fly in at a nearly 100% rate if they’re within 25 yds of goal and the defender has almost no chance of stopping them. Most of us rush to try and drop a defender to guard the post behind the wall (because that’s where the ball will always go), but savvy kick takers know to fire away as soon as the kick-taking screen pops up and they invariably convert. None of this is at all realistic and it shouldn’t be that hard to fix (just dial down the shot accuracy a bit or allow the defense more time to set up).
