Why the hell do we even need Manager Mode?

I completely agree. 

Agree 100%. Tactics do nothing (EA must be having a laugh at any of us who actually try to tweak those sliders because they do NOTHING). And the football that’s transpiring is an absolute joke. Given the state of “machine learning,” you’d think EA could have the AI “watch” a few hundred games and it would simulate something resembling real football, but there’s so much about the simulations that’s just non-sensical. It’d be laughable if it wasn’t such a maddening waste of the user’s time. And that’s really the bottom line, isn’t it? EA just doesn’t respect its customers anymore. They’re running a glorified casino in which everything revolves around packing rare player cards and we’re the “marks.” Playing a fun, realistic football game isn’t even remotely a priority.

Yeah, but the manager mode can increase the activity points on leagues that can give you league points (blue ones) who make you get some good players like (essien🇬🇭, zambrotta🇦🇷 preciously) and now al-jaber🇸🇦

You’re missing the point. EA could design any number of ways for users to win those same points without putting us all through the charade of a mode where we’re watching a bad simulation and not really “managing” anything (because the controls don’t have any discernible impact on the match).  It’s not about the activity points (because even if manager mode went away they could just make matches in other modes worth more). It’s about EA respecting users and the sport of football enough to not make manager mode suck so much.

I’m not actually suggesting manager mode needs to be eliminated per se. I’m just agreeing (100%) with the observation that, in its current form, it’s really pretty poor. I don’t seem to have any real control over my team as the “manager” and the match I’m forced to watch is a poor, poor parody of actual football.

Manager mode is absolute garbage. Your players will suddenly just shoot stupid shot after stupid shot constantly, like they were given a lobotomy ... to the point that tjey try to shoot with their weak foot from just passed halfway. It is so unrealistic ... a shame really.

It has been explained many times in the past that this was a trial for another FC Tactical mode and was left behind for the time being.
It is random at best.  Personally, I think EA should remove it. Get the freebies from it while it's around and move on.
