Why can’t I link a different Xbox acc to EA acc??

I know they say it’s only possible once in the accounts lifetime, but WHY?? I have all my progress on my EA account, had an Xbox ages ago, but lately used Steam. Having recently purchased another Xbox, I decided to play madden on it. Tried linking my new Xbox gamertag, can’t because I have a gamertag from 10+ years ago linked to it. I no longer have access to that Xbox account.  SO why can I not have that Xbox account unlinked so I can link my NEW gamertag and keep the game progress that I’ve poured hundreds of dollars into?? We’re offered 0 explanation. I’ve preordered madden 25 and college football, and can’t use the preorder bonus for the 99 player for madden 24 ( on my already well established game progress) Could it be because they literally have 0 customer support agents? Customer Support that lacks the ability to access and modify accounts isn’t customer support.

  • Hello @iLOGG,

generally speaking, the rule is there for several reasons, including to prevent cheating. The once-in-a-lifetime-rule is part of EAs rules. However, if you contact EA Support and explain your situation (you don't use the old Xbox account anymore and haven't for a while already), they might be able to make an exception and link the account manually. This is however not guaranteed.
