WR Battle Training with Keyboard and Mouse

Trying to play WR Battle under Pre-season training with keyboard and mouse.  Instructions say, "Get open and call for the ball with [space] to catch passes and earn points".  However, after I hit [space] to hike the ball then I control the receiver, hitting [space] again does not pass the ball.  I have tried hitting all kinds of keys and QB never passes to me.  What am I doing wrong?
