Online "Real-Life NFL Coach" Abilities Bug

Bug report for online franchise mode:

Bug: Online Franchise mode with a "real-life NFL coach" is locking out coaching ability slots without anyway to unlock.

Background: NFL coaches have a progression system where you unlock abilities and ability slots by leveling up. If you make a custom coach you start at level 0. As you level you unlock abilities and ability slots (which allows you to equip more abilities). With a custom coach, you unlock extra ability slots at level 1 (2 ability slots), level 7, level 16, and level 31. You also unlock play sheets at level 26 and 40, and trainer abilities at Level 24.  When selecting a  "real-life NFL coach" you do not start at level 1, you start at a higher level according to how "good" the coach is. For example, a first time head coach like Liam Coen (jaguars) will be level 5, where as a very good and tenured coach like Andy Reid (chiefs) will start at level 20+.

Conditions to create bug: When selecting an online franchise, with a "real-life NFL coach" and a start point that is any week except "preseason week 1" your coach does not unlock all prerequisite ability slots that are lower than their associated starting level. In my specific case, I would like to start an NFL franchise with the patriots. I want to start with the week 1 regular season roster. I want to play as Mike Vrabel, a "real-life NFL coach". Mike Vrabel starts at level 12. When launching the franchise, I have 3 ability slots: two at level 1, and one at level 7 that are still locked. I have not found a way to unlock those ability slots.

Troubleshooting: I have tried leveling to force a condition to unlock the ability slots which does not work. As mentioned, I have started franchises offline that works, and I have launched online franchises starting preseason week 1 and those unlock all the prerequisite ability slots without issue. I have done a custom coach starting week 1 and that works as well since I start at level 0. It is only when trying to use a "real life NFL coach", online, and any future week past the default preseason week 1 where the abilities are getting locked. I have tried simming to the end of the season as well to see if the off season would fix the issue but that does not work. The issue appears to be in the back end where it is recognizing that I am past the level in which the ability should be unlocked, but there is no verification loop that checks that progression has been maintained and it doesn't not apply prorated progression.

Rant: This is not the only inconsistency/bug that I have encountered with franchise mode specifically. I expect better and if I wasn't an NFL sicko and addicted to video games, I'd not buy this game until these issues are addressed. My only conclusion is that EA is malicious, trying to make franchise mode unejoyable to force their players to play MUT since that is effectively pay to win (I have 0 interest in MUT or any madden multiplayer since it is unrealistic and very spammy/exploitable) or EA is incompetent. I'll list the other issues below and maybe if EA cares to make an enjoyable and polished game they can try to address them (Note: this is only based on my experiences and what I have perceived. I'm mainly interested in Franchise mode, so most of my criticism will be directed towards that. I'm sure there are more that I didn't cover):

  • Lack of default settings. When I'm in the main menu and set my default settings I expect them to carry over to all noncompetitive game modes at minimum. I don't want to have to pick all my settings again every time I launch a new franchise.
  • Lack of in game default settings. Why is there no option for me to set my substitutions for wear and tear. I have to do it every single time I launch a game. That is annoying and shouldn't even be a thing.
  • Why do I have to set my sliders every time I launch a franchise. I defined what sliders I want in the main menu (same as wear and tear) and yet it does not carry over.
  • Why is the import roster body bug still a thing. This has been in the last two maddens. Like come on.
  • Why can I not see a draft board and see all the players that have been picked. No, the last 32 picks is not good enough, and I have no way of checking my own internal draft boards to compare, so it's effectively crappy window dressing.
  • Why is it so difficult for you to let us customize our draft board. I want to be able to move my prospects around and set a draft board just like they do in the NFL. Having me favorite the prospects, and not allow me to move them doesn't make any sense and ruins the fun.
  • Why does the substitution system not work. I modify it, and the subs just stay as default.
  • Why does modifying a real-life players body features remove their real-life picture?
  • Why is it that if I'm running a 3-4 scheme (which does not have a SAM linebacker position in the lineup menu), do you require me to populate and have a SAM linebacker rostered. Funnily enough, the SAM linebacker in a 3-4 scheme is a an Edge defender, but you require me to populate both depth charts spots, but it can't have the same player as a starter in both positions. Do you understand what the positions are?
  • Why is it that you call out SAM and Will linebackers, but when the defense auto flips, the linebackers stay on the same side? It's almost like you replaced right linebacker with SAM and left linebacker with Will without recognizing that SAM means strong side and Will means weak side, so there for the linebackers should reposition themself according to the offense's alignment. It's almost like you guys don't know what game you're trying to simulate and you're just trying to use buzz words that make it seem like you're knowledgeable, but anyone who knows ball can tell that you're basically cosplaying, when in reality you're all just a bunch of pink hats.

While I'm sure there are many other bugs, these are the most egregious ones that I've encountered which primarily effect franchise mode, and they should all be addressed ASAP since a lot of them are frustrating or game breaking. Most people play for franchise mode, and alienating them in favor of other modes is creating a lot of animosity among your player base (see like any review for this game, it is all 1 or 2 stars). Eventually people are just gonna stop buying it since like I said, EA is coming off as malicious or incompetent.
