Free agents disappear in franchise mode

I am unable to play a game in franchise mode because I don't have a long snapper on the roster. I am on season 2 week 3. I cut my long snapper during preseason week 4. I was able to simulate week 1 and 2 without issue despite not having a long snapper on my roster. When attempting to sign a long snapper so I can play the game there are zero long snappers in the free agent pool (only 1 on the Falcons practice squad). I searched the transaction history and the long snapper I cut was not signed by another team nor did he retire.  I searched the league roster  and was unable to find the player I released. After browsing the entire league roster of long snappers there are only 20 total in the league so my team isn't the only one without a long snapper on the roster. I also noticed the are 0 Sam linebackers in the free agent pool. I find it odd as there are plenty of Will and Mike but zero Sam.

I have 2 issues:

#1 Where did all the long snappers (and sam linebackers) disappear to? 

#2 Why can I sim a week without a long snapper (and other teams don't have a long snapper) but I can't play the game without one?
