ERRATIC X-Box controller

Hi...I'm new to this community, so I hope I'm posting this in the right place.  If not, please forgive me.

I want to know if anyone else has experienced what I'm currently experiencing with Madden 26 (my only EA Sports game).  I installed the program (I'm running the game on my PC, not on a gaming console).  When the game finishes the start-up routine and presents me with the first main menu,  I CANNOT make any choices at all.  What I'm seeing, instead, is as if I'm holding down some "key or button", and I "see" all the menu choices RAPIDLY moving in a continuous loop, from top to bottom.  I'm hoping I'm presenting a clear picture here of what it would look like if I intentionally kept, let's say, the "down arrow" key pressed, not letting up at all.  Not letting up at all.  The resulting visual is of the menu choices all being raced over in a continuous loop...never giving me a chance to make a selection.

The only way for me to exit this condition is to perform a "CTRL-ALT-DEL" and exit through the task manager.

I have attempted to plug my controller into different USB slots...no success.
