Ammo powers and how to make them better.

I haven't seen this being talked about anywhere else, which I think is a shame. Ammo powers were really cool in the previous games and I think it made almost every class more fun to play knowing you could use different ammo powers, but in Andromeda ammo is limited to consumables, which imo is a step in the wrong direction, especially how they were implemented. If you don't know what I'm talking about, ammo powers are now consumables which give you bonuses for three magazines worth of shooting. If you are keen, you found out really quickly that ammo consumables are completely 100 percent un-viable on weapons with small magazine sizes (especially snipers). Personally, I think consumables are mostly useless but I can see if people like them, so here is my idea. Add a new skill list for ammo powers. So combat, biotic, tech, and ammo. Here you can have incendiary, cryo, disruptor, armor shredder, and warp ammo. These skills will be un mappable on your standard power mapping (which needs more slots btw), but instead they can be put in the consumable slots on the weapon wheel, and be toggle abilities. This way, ammo powers are more viable, more fun, more accessible, and just improves singleplayer as a whole. In previous mass effect games (two and three) every class had access to ammo powers through squad loyalty or class abilities, now they are just easily forgettable almost negligible consumables that aren't fun at all. Thank you for reading and responding with feedback if you wish to do so.

  • Is that how those work? I thought those were just while you have that ammo active it gets a bonus. will have to test it out

  • @Rand207 Thanks for the tip on weapon development augments. I will certainly have to check that out.

  • My issue is that the current system is not user friendly and I always forget to use the ammo consumable.  I have a ton of ammo left over after my playthrough cause I keep forgetting to activate them.  Think I used some in habitat 7 and nothing else for the entire game.

Also they are called augmentations 🙂

Thanks!  My brain wasn't working optimally and I couldn't remember they were call augmentations.

I should also add, that while augmentations are the best way to get the ammo effects, my original post stated that I thought there was a skill in the Engineer class that did the same.  I was wrong in that.  However, Drak does have the incinerate ammo as one of his skills.

I often forget about them. Probably more viable in Insane mode, whilst your weapons will do less damage and you'll try using stronger ones with small clips, so ... no, useless it seems.

I would find interesting having those as augments for our weapons, being then harnessed by certain skills. There's a lot of potential for other kinds of consumables as well. They just need to sit one night and think for a couple of hours, brainstorm and punch the face of whoever comes with the worst idea.

Then they are still just unintuitive consumables with a lack of progression/customization. A single skill line wouldn't be able to make 6 ammo powers each feel unique, which is why I still think my original solution would fare better. Especially since I only really intent to play combat soldier and are starting to get a lot of points I don't need or won't use

Same here, besides they gave the combat tree only one bloody power and that is turbocharge. Where is carnage, fortification or even power armor like Vetra. Combat tree has no regen related bonuses either. Atm the combat tree needs a bloody overhaul as grenades are not powers they are equipment. Barricade should have itself been an equipable grenade. Finally give us more slots 3 at a time is too little.

  • I do miss my Incendiary and Cryo powers, not to mention my old favorite Carnage, and I would love to get Flare for myself or Cora (or both!):eahigh_file:
