Sound issues are not uncommon in ME1, it is an old sound system the game uses, but this sounds like something that should be correctable in a Sound blaster settings menu.
Did you played with the settings?
Or are the Dialogues in the surround channels instead of the center channel?
I'm guessing the dialogue is on the wrong channel, as like I said, it seems like the characters are in s large hall that echoes, and not right next to me.
I don't have any issues with ME1 original edition with the same set up.
