BIG problem with Mass Effect 2 - Importing and No character choice

I have the Legendary edition (PC) and have played completely through the first Mass Effect (Legendary - I don't have the original). I have the saved file of the end game. I tried to load into Mass Effect 2 and import my file. However, there is no indication that I have a file to import. I click New Game and it just launches me into the game - which is the other problem. It does not even let me choose Male or Female or customize my chracter, even if I just start with a new character. It launches directly into the prologue, defaults to Male Shep, and that's it.

Is there a fix for this? I don't know how my game is completely missing even the ability to choose the sex of my character.

Thanks for replying. I've fixed the problem. The thing is, I don't know how I did it. I moved a file around somewhere and it worked. Thanks for at least replying and being nice about it. I asked on Steam and all I got was a * who wanted to berate me.

That's quite strange. Normally, after clicking new game, you have the options male, female, or import ME1 character. Is it possible your click on 'new game' was registered as a double click? The choice for 'male' is at the same height, so maybe it selected the top choice.

No, I don't think it is. I'm using a controller and I've tried to launch the game several times. If it's a double click, it's doing it every single time. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling?

Do you use Mods?

Try to repair the game.

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)
