I have no idea what you mean by that?
And yes, I know why they do it, but there are benefits for the customer as well.
I like digital download and I am pretty sure many others do as well.
I can buy game in the middle of the night and play it a half hour later.
A physical medium can get defective, a digital download is easily to repair.
You can Pre-Download the game and have it ready to play in the minute of release.
No clutter, and If I want a physical box I can buy a collectors edition or make it by my own.
But the most important point is that modern PCs often simply miss blue ray or DVD drives.
The point was that hard copies of PC games no longer exist except for those so-called "Collector's Editions" that aren't worth the $150+ price tag. Unlike a hard physical copy of the game, one DOES NOT OWN the game in question. A digital download is merely a LICENSE to play the game under certain terms. Developers are forcing the digital download format for the sole purpose of enhanced DRM aka total control of their product/service. Digital downloads should be cheaper vs a physical copy but obviously they aren't. One would think it would be cheaper for a digital download since companies don't have to spend money on manufacturing discs/cases/paper manuals. Nope. Prices are the exact same despite companies not having to spend the extra money on the aforementioned items via the digital download platform...

Simply wrong.
Games are software, no matter if you own a digital or a physical copy, you always only own a license to play the game.
Physical copy's on PC are bound to the specific account as well in our times, so there is literally no difference anymore. (As said, on PC: )
And servers cost money too btw. 🙂
Have a nice life.
