Slowly but surely losing patience as one of the reasons she bought her own copy of the game was that we could play MP together and it's proving to be impossible. Tried both public/private matches, both hosting. Nothing changes anything.
Have you tried going into the Multiplayer main menu, Pressing shift+F1, selecting friend list and joining whilst in Mass Effect 3 (I gather from your post you are trying to join from your desktop, sorry if this is incorrect).
Otherwise, try with the other person hosting as that might work
Yes, we tried that too and it didn't work. No method we have tried that involves the Origin friends list has worked so far, but we just bumbep into each other in a random match and were able to play normally. And by "random match" I actually mean we specifically searched for the same combination of map/enemy/difficulty and got paired in a match. So maybe it's got something to do with Origin specifically, or that's what I've gathered.
