Do you need an account…
Do you need an EA account to install and play Mass Effect Legendary Edition, I don’t remember ever having to check any boxes or confirm an account...?

That largely depends on what platform you're on. On PC through Origin or Steam you'd clearly need an EA Account.
Console is typically a bit different and would prompt you to sign into an EA Account the first time you launch any EA title with online capabilities. If you've already linked an EA Account in the past it shouldn't prompt you again, and for games like the Legendary Edition that don't really have online components you'll likely not see a similar prompt anyway.
