Female Shepard - add more romance options (spoilers)

The Legendary Edition was the perfect chance to actually fix the cut content and give FemShepard more romancing options. There is still a significant gap between possible partners for male / female Shepard, both in numbers and quality of character.

Kaiden is probably my least favourite character because he just seems so... flat?. Then there is James who is the typical stereotype gym bro who thinks he is the coolest and gives everyone cute nicknames, like really? Who else do we have left? Sure, Garrus and Thane are cool and probably the best, character-wise. Oh yeah, Jacob, i always forget that he exists....

Meanwhile, male Shepard can date like 90% of the girls he meets. And a lot of them are way more interesting than the guys.

It's not 2010 anymore, let us have Ashley & Miranda. You already have voice lines recorded for them, but decided to cut them off the game for whatever reason. We have to play through 2-and-a-half games until we can flirt with another female character that is not Liara. What about Aria? Kelly?

If you don't have the time or nerves, work with the mod community and ask them to do it for you. It just feels so disappointing.

  • I agree there aren't enough options for Femshep. I believe they intended Jack to be an option in ME2, but that the idea was scrapped because they feared backlash from Fox News. I think this is an excuse. BioWare tried to be inclusive at times, but wasn't quite there yet.

EDIT: To be clear, I think there aren't enough options for male Shepard either.

Those lines were recorded as a safety net, just to make sure they didn't accidentally skip something. That's why male Shepard refers to himself as a woman at one point. It's not cut content, because it was never intended to be included.

James isn't a romance option. I'm fine with that. 😛

Additional to @Fred_vdp , Bioware always said it is a remaster, not a remake.

It was never about making changes to the game, it is a graphical overhaul, nothing more, nothing les.

I am not sure if this is a troll post, but anyway.

Kaidan is by far the best written character in ME1*, people just seem to overlook this because all the others are interesting-looking aliens. So new players were naturally more drawn to them - plus they got fleshed out in the later games, while sadly Kaidan got the short end of the stick, so returning players are also likely to favor the others more. Another unpopular opinion: Garrus was one of the worst characters up until ME3. He was outright boring in ME1, and he had like three unique Normandy dialogues for the entirety of ME2...
(*Though he comes off as a creep when playing as a female Shepard, the automatic flirting and romance-lock happens way too early, but that's a separate issue, romance overall is pretty bad in the first entry.)

Between male/female opportunities: I somewhat agree on quality of character, but numbers? Counting only "fully realised" romances: ME1 had two romance options for both genders. ME2 had three (plus Liara reunion). ME3 also had four for both genders, but sure, it's dependent on previous choices (Virmire survivor). Though I'd argue that they half-arsed many good romances in ME3 (Thane, Miranda, Jack)...

It wasn't until ME3 that Shepard could actually be in a same-sex romance, be it male or female. Though if you're counting Liara as same-sex, then the whole situation is exactly the opposite of what you're on about here.

And it is not about 2021 or 2010. Making everyone bisexual is just outright silly. They did that in Dragon Age 2 and it made no sense whatsoever.

(Also, I think Kelly can be "romanced" by both genders.)

I like how different he is from the turian stereotype. He was raised in a militaristic society that above else values law, order, and discipline, but Garrus rejects that because it's too restricting. I think that creates an interesting contrast and a unique perspective.

Could have been an interesting take and a good "prequel" to Archangel, yes. But in truth, the whole of it is presented in a really bland way. ME1 Garrus simply comes off as a gung-ho character who dislikes his desk job. Also, not much of the turian species is known at that point if a player does not actively read the codex.
  • @Tenseijken Kelly is romanceable by Femshep. Funny, I find Kaidan and James way more appealing than Ashley or Miranda (not counting looks). I always felt like Jack should be an option for Femshep since she mentions having been in a bisexual/polyamorous situation once in conversation.

I never really understood the thing about having the lines recorded already, but I do agree it's disappointing that they didn't put those to use in the LE.
