Graphical Bug

Hello,

im having a Graphical Bug in Mass Effect 1: Everytime I enter the Peak Station on Noveria or land on Ilos the Textures of Shepard, my Squadmates and all my Enemies dissappear and they are just some black boxes.

My PC:

- Windows7 64bit

- AMD FX 8120

- 8 GB RAM

- 500 GB SSD

- Nvidia GTX 650 TI

I would be grateful if you can help me. This is just a Graphical bug, but it is really annoying. If you need any information just ask!

Thank You

  • I've ran into this bug myself, I think almost everyone in the community has. So far the only fixes I have are A) Enabling consol commands and then using the command, viewmode unlit(viewmode lit to re-enable), to disable the lighting and bring back in your character textures. This is a temporary fix and will drastically white wash Noveria during your time there. Then there is option B), which worked best for me, and that is to go into your BIOAengine.ini and tweaking the rendering LOD. There should be a post on the Bioware forums about this.

    Thank you for the hint!

    But i just cant find a post about this. Maybe someone can give me a link?

    EDIT: To clarify this: I found some posts on the Bioware Forums about this topic. But I found nothing about tweaking the LOD.

  • I remember I found the thread by googling, "Rendering thread exception", but here is the main line I tweaked to fix the game.

    It's this line:
    TEXTUREGROUP_Environment_1024=(MinLODSize=4096,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=-1)

    Scale back the MinLODSize value to 2048:
    TEXTUREGROUP_Environment_1024=(MinLODSize=2048,MaxLODSize=4096,LODBias=-1)

    This is a known issue and is caused by the AMD FX processor. Unfortunately these processors are not compatible with the original Mass Effect and cause these graphical bugs on Noveria and Ilos. Other than using a workaround, there's not much you can do.

    It should also be noted that this is a problem on AMD's end, since the FX processors came out after the game. If you want, you could contact AMD and ask them to look into this issue.

    I recently became indoctrinated into the ME trilogy and am on my first play-through of the first game on my brand new custom gaming PC (my second play-through overall). Yesterday I discovered the glitch that's apparently been bothering FX processor users for years: the disappearing textures in the central station of Peak 15 on Noveria. I've heard this glitch also affects the entire planet of Ilos, but I haven't gotten there yet. Has an actual fix for this problem surfaced yet? Does anyone know of a configuration in an .ini file that can fix it? I'm aware of the "workaround" for this that involves using a command prompt within the game, and I've used that. The problem is that it completely removes shadow effects and makes everything look ugly. I'm more interested in something that can actually fix the disappearing textures bug permanently, without affecting the performance or any other graphic effects.

    I find it strange that this problem seems to be associated with newer AMD processors, because texture rendering is supposed to be done by the GPU and not the CPU.

    Any assistance or necessary information regarding this common issue would be greatly appreciated. If you know of a solution that would meet my specified goal, I implore you to share it with me.

    FYI, my processor is an AMD 8-Core FX-8320 and my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 960. All the right drivers are installed and up-to-date.

    I also have 16gb of RAM. Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.

    And for some reason this came up as a reply to another post even though I posted it as an entirely separate question.

    Well this website sucks.
