Help to understand grenades

Grenades in the Soldier build are skills, and to use a grenade skill, you have to equip it in one of your skill slots to be able to use it (them).  I'm on a PC, so I don't know the control scheme on a PS4.  On a PC you hit the hotkey (or hold and release, depending upon the effect you want) while directionally aiming with the mouse.  But regardless of PC or PS4, you still have to equip the specific grenade skill in a skill slot to use it.  There are at least 2, maybe 3, grenade skills in the Soldier skill tree.  It is also one of those skills that have limited rounds that have to be replenished at a weapons cache or forward station.  Some of the skill branches will increase the number of grenades (or uses of that skill) that you can carry before replenishing.

Okay, I have all the grenade skills maxed out and I also have the flamethrower skills maxed out.

On the PS4 when I hold in the R1 button, all of I get is the power which raises people up off the ground.

From what I read, the R1 button is suppose to be the flamethrower. So I am missing something but I

don't know what I am missing. I have the N7 level 2 armor. Does that matter?   I don't know if it is

something that I have failed to research and develop or what. I have watched videos of people using

the flamethrower and I can't seem to make it happen.  I am sure that it is something that I either have to

have or something I need to equip. I just haven't been able to figure it out. I really would like to have the

flamethrower ability before I start the final push.

I am on pc so I don't know the buttons, and that means you will have to look and read on your screen.

When you go to character skills screen and pick a skill class, you should see in lower center three skill in slots...these are your active skills for your character. You then highlight a skill and press a button to then put it into one of those slots(on computer is it V key). Once it is in a slot, in combat you then press corresponding button to activate the skill.

To make things more fun you have a favorites bar allowing the choice of 4 different sets of skills and power profiles to be saved for quick swapping during gameplay.

So it sounds like you need to figure out how to overwrite a grenade skill over your pull skill, and know which button activates which of the three skills.

You have the wrong skills active. You can only have three skills active at any given time. You can set up favorites/profiles for 4 different skill sets.So technically you could have up to 12 skills available during combat, but only three that you can use simultaneously.

is not enought to have the skill you need to equip the granedes and equip the skill as one of the three options

Thanks for all the help. I will have to go back and read the tutorials again.

I must admit that I read them real fast first time.

I was mistakenly told by a friend that the R1 button was the one to use.

On PS4 it is set up as this

L1 =  Power 1, which right now fires my gun as well as the R2 button which fires the gun

L1 + R1 = Power 2 which right now Ryder gets a glow in the hand and then fires some kind of beam

R1 = Power 3 which is the lifting effect.

I will go back and check the settings.
