Never got this "canon" thing.
The story doesn't have to be about Shepherd.. but about the events that occurred. For me, the names of characters aren't instrumental in the flow of the game or any follow ons.
Just the idea of what the game is.. that's all that matters.
For example Civ 1-6.. it's all the same game.. just slightly different ways of playing it, same with FF series or Fifa.. you're just playing football all the time..
Mass Effect is just a series of intertwined stories. And it's the interaction with those stories that makes the game fun. (for me imho etc etc) Which is why I like even the most basic interactions the Angry Woman.. the Confused anagarons.. and so on. Even the most minor mission can have huge entertainment factoring into it.. You might perhaps in ME:5 or 6 if ever they come into being.. meet the great grand daughter of Sloan Kelly.. or of the Charlton.. Or Dunn.. Or someone from the earlier series..
It's like the whole Star Trek thing.. oh they switched timelines.. oh how terrible that is, I hate star trek now etc etc.. doesn't bother me one bit.. I like the old Star Trek, I like the new.. that someone switched timelines only makes it more interesting, not less so. All this hang up hate about what is or isn't Canon.. it's completely pointless.
I'm glad they made new characters from a fresh bloodline.. because the story of andromeda does stem from the story of the original series. You just can't import your character to it.. because they've gone in a different direction.
