Issue with ammo drops

I've got an issue with the ammo drop rates in Mass Effect 2 and 3.

It started on 2, where enemies would just randomly stop dropping ammo. As irritating as this was, it could be fixed by reloading a save file.

I've just started 3, completed Mars, Eden Prime and Cerberus Lab. Enemies are not dropping ammo at all. The only ammo I can get is from the clips already loaded on the map.

Anyone know what's going on?

  • @Essey-B90 The amount of clips drop decrease with higher difficulty. About 1 clip/kill on narrative mode, almost no clips on insanity.

That is not true at all for ME3. I have plenty of clips around all the time, I'd say it's an overabundance, especially compared to how problematic it was in ME2.

I am playing on insanity, but I'm getting no drops at all. Not one since starting the game and I'm now 3 missions in.

It's definitely not normal. The original certainly wasn't like this on the 360.

I guess I'll try lowering the difficulty to see if that makes a difference though. Thanks for the answer.

  • I didn't notice a single ammo drop in the Mars mission, and very little in subsequent missions.

I don't know if they're falling under the ground or if something else is going on, but ammo in ME3 is incredibly sparse for me. The pre-placed caches are the only real way to resupply for most missions so far.

@devSin That's the insanity play. Normally that difficulty would make more sense to be a second play where your biotic powers are much better and you don't need to rely on weapons that much. Also in NG+ you have 2 weapons with recharge.
Tactical combat also helps a lot since companions will never complain about the ammo.

Mars had no drops for me from a certain point at around the final stages. I say again, it is not because of insanity, this has to be an issue.

I have never completely ran out of clips in the original, and it has not happened ever since in LE. I've never changed it from Insanity, and I'm getting a hefty amount of clip drops.

@sweetpoison0011 No, it was on normal difficulty.

I did a quick run through the level again last night (normal again), and I did get a few ammo drops. Not very many, and more may have de-spawned before I noticed them, but there at least were some. I'm not sure if the patch changed it or if it's just wonky. I honestly don't remember how ammo behaved in the original game, but it didn't feel right at all.

I know there are other physics bugs (with the enemies getting stuck on the ground—that one hasn't been fixed), which is what made me think that could be breaking it (playing as an adept).

@devSin Also a good to know, in insanity mode the clips spawn is short. I missed clips many times as they disappeared while I was a few steps away.

Well you're definitely right about the increased drop rate on lower difficulties. I put it on narrative difficulty and enemies were dropping clips all over the place.

I've started getting the odd dropped clip on insanity too though. Don't know if I was just missing the dropped clips, getting unlucky or it was an issue with the Mars mission on my game. Who knows.
