List of Bugs I've Found in ME1

On Noveria and Probos, the pathfinding for your party members goes completely bonkers. If you go through a door and it closes behind you, they can't follow you through and will get stuck. Trying to move around crates and other objects also causes them to get stuck. You either have to walk slowly so they stay right beside you, or constantly direct them to certain points so they can navigate the terrain. Dunno if others have reported this issue.

On the Fedele, there is a massive frame rate drop after dealing with Saleon. Returning to the Normandy fixes this. Others have reported the issue.

Saren's compound on Virmire is badly bugged. After talking to the indoctrinated scientist, then moving up to the room with the husks and krogan, the framerate tanks to 7fps. I had actually saved right before then, so I tried backing out to the main menu and reloading. Didn't work. I tried exiting the game completely and loading the save, didn't work. I turned off vsync, I lowered the frame rate cap to 60 fps, turned off dynamic shadows, nothing worked. Out of curiosity, instead of going into the room with the husks, I went out the back way to the outside area and the FPS went back up to 60. When I went back inside, soon as I got near the husk room the FPS tanked again. I initiated the fight and had to let my teammates deal with it because I couldn't even aim. After I went up the elevator everything was fine. So there is something specifically wrong with that area in the base. Many, MANY other people have reported this issue in the Steam forums.

In the second phase of the fight with Saren on the Citadel, I had his health down halfway and then the game froze so badly that even alt+tabbing or bringing up the control panel wouldn't shut down the application (in fact, I couldn't even click on the control panel window). Only thing I could do was restart my computer. Many others have reported this issue. A lot of them say it's tied to using biotics, haven't tested this myself.

  • @DalekMustDine Hey, thanks for the post, the pathing weirdness has indeed been reported, and of course Saren and Virmire. For the pathing issue, quickly saving and reloading should get the teammates acting correctly again.

  • @EA_David I didn't even think of just reloading the save. I was relieved to see that old Noveria bug from the original game was gone though, the one that turned all the character models into giant black polygons.
  • To clarify, I tested it, and the trigger for this frame issues is killing the indoctrinated salarians in the cell next to the Salarian you can free. As long as you do not kill them, there is no fps drop

Yeah, that was bad. It was any AMD CPU from the FX series onwards. With the popularity of Ryzen CPUs, I'm glad they managed to sort that out.

OMG! I came here to post about this bug where choosing to "euthanize" those four prisoners will destroy the FPS. Weirdly enough, FPS will temporarily come back when the game is out of focus (either in fullscreen or windowed mode). This is a reproductible bug.

This is the first game-breaking bug I found. I lost almost an hour and now I'm too dissapointed to resume my playthrough. ☹️

Please, fix this. ☹️ This is the first time I play this game.

Update: In the meantime, I'll play something else. 🤷‍♂️

Since English isn't my native language, I would like to make sure I understood correctly... Did you say you are actively investigating about the performance-related bugs on Virmire?

  • @Bowi_QC Go to Rana Thanoptis, then the performance will return to normal. If you have a safe from before shooting the prisoners, finish all else incl. the two geth guarding Rana Thanoptis before shooting the prisoners so you just have to reach Rana.

If I'm not mistaken, Bioware is investigating the issue.

Good... Good. Thanks! I might try. Who's Rana? 😅

  • @Bowi_QC

For some reason I thought you were familiar wth the original game, sorry my bad.

Ignore the salarians for now and proceed. Finish everything you want before taking the elevator up to the next level. After taking care of what has to be done, exit the room and you will find two geth guarding a door. Behind the door you'll find Rana. After killing the geth, don't go through the door, instead return to the cell with the salarians if you still want to deal with them. I recommend to safe the game. I you'll kill them, performance will drop again, but now you "just" have to walk to Rana instead of fighting/looting. It's been referred to as "the walk of shame" before on this board, but it's doable.

    Good luck!
