Mass Effect 1 Won't Launch, Stuck on Splash Screen

Basically, when I launch Mass Effect it will bring up the splash screen, and that is all. Nothing happens after that, I've left it running in the background for up to around 30 minutes and still nothing. I have been able to play this game before on my current pc using windows 10 but that was about a year or two ago, and I am running it through Steam. I've tried pretty much every solution that's been hanging around in forums and whatnot to no avail; some solutions I've tried include:

  • Running masseffect.exe as administrator
  • Running Steam as administrator
  • Updating graphics card
  • Changing MassEffectLauncher.exe, MassEffectConfig.exe, and MassEffect.exe to Windows XP SP2 compatability mode
  • Changing MassEffectLauncher.exe, MassEffectConfig.exe, and MassEffect.exe to Windows XP SP3 compatability mode
  • Setting MassEffect.exe to RunAsInvoker in the registry
  • Downloading and installing http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0604-legacy-driver.html
  • Reinstalling DirectX
  • Turning my computer off and on again

I've tried more but I cant remember at this point, I've near exhausted what I can do personally troubleshooting wise, and would dearly appreciate some help at this point.

Thanks in advance,

Did you tried to repair the game? (in steam  > right click at ME > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.)

If that don#t helps, please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

Also go to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the game you have trouble with.

If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.

  • I had the same exact issue and for me it was Origin in-game.  Most of the answers I've seen on this and other forums are far too complicated.

Unfortunately EA in all their infinite wisdom have an application override on Origin in-game that can only be disabled by right clicking the game in Origin, clicking game properties and then unchecking the allow Origin in-game checkbox.  I had to do this even though Origin in-game was disabled via the settings menu that was previously suggested.  After doing that, it worked fine.  Didn't have to do anything else.

EA, if you're listening: your Origin product is trash.  So is Origin in-game.  Origin can't even run at a respectable resolution by default on my pc.  When your own launcher breaks your own games, that's a bad sign.  Maybe you should fix that? Can you guys maybe allocate some Mass Effect developers to fix your Origin product?  Please?

I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Mass Effect, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
