Though Mass Effect and Mass Effect 3 will be compatible, Mass Effect 2 will NOT be compatible on Windows 10. Is there some adjustment that can make the game playable on Windows 10, or will a fix be provided?

Have they any idea how pathetically dumb they appear to be. ME and ME 3 will work on windows 10, but apparently it's just too complicated for them to get ME 2 to work on win 10. They knew win 10 was going to replace all previous versions of windows and too prepare for it.

mass effect 2 does work on windows 10 , you have to goto the main game folder of mass effect 2 and for both mass effect2.exe 's right click and them and goto properties and click on compatability and select windows 8, and run as administrator , click ok on them both, and make a shortcut of the 2nd mass effect 2.exe down in the game folder on the desktop, and it will load everytime no issues, but from time to time it will crash once in a blue moon, but it works , i;ve just done the game, but mass effect 3 is not even loading at all, mass effect 1 i had to use a crack to get it to work on windows 7,8,10 and running it under windows 7 emulation with administrator on, might go back to windows 7 at this rate lol. hope this helps.

I just encountered the issue... tried everything to get it working..The only thing that works for me is to go into Mass Effect 2\Binaries and double click ME2Game.exe to launch the game.Only drawback I found was that every time I start the game, it tells me my local save is newer than the one in the cloud and I get the sync option.. but other than this, it works.Bit disappointing that EA cant sort this out, especially on such an awesome franchise with a cult following.

I'd just like to say that I'm running Mass Effect 2 just fine on my system with Windows 10 Home Premium 64 bit. I have had to make the point of running the clean boot to install the game and all of the content without issue, and found it preferable to activate it in clean boot as well (running it for the first time, and signing into the irritating Cerberus Network for the first time). It should also be noted that there's been a large number of issues with what character's are acceptable for passwords, so I generally just recommend either trying out the character's stated to be acceptable in this thread here (linkage!) or go with a pure alphabetical upper and lower case string comboed with 1 through 0. Again, I do believe you only need to go through the whole irritation of the clean boot and install (possibly with a repair/update) on the first go round, after that all should be well. Oh, ALSO! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONFIGURE THE GAME WITH THE CONFIGURATION TOOL IN THE GAME FOLDER! Set up your audio & visual preferences in the game itself. And be aware that the game has some odd dual use of ME2Game.exe and MassEffect2.exe which I never really got, but ... I basically (with an AMD card) create 2 profiles in AMD, one for ME2Game.exe and one for MassEffect2.exe. It's extra work, but if you want some of the benefits of a GPU Profile for your game, worth it (I think). My 3 cents. 🙂 Edit: Just in case, a clean boot requires "Run -> "msconfig" -> Services Tab -> Check 'Hide all Microsoft Services' -> Disable All & Apply -> Startup Tab and 'Open Task Manager' -> Disable absolutely everything in 'Startup' tab. Close, hit apply again if need be, and 'ok.' A prompt should appear and you should just agree to restart immediately. When it boots back up, pretty much nothing will be running that will interfere with the installation. It finally worked for me when I uninstall and reinstalled it many times, it didn't work when I tried this before, but now it is working without any issue.

As Windows 10 is still only available as a preview it is not a supported OS.

I am not speaking about the "preview". I have read that the compatibility of the final Windows 10 will be similar to Windows 8. So I ran a Windows 8 compatibility check on my system and Mass Effect 2 is listed as not compatible. Is it possible that Windows 10 could change that? I sure hope so. But, if not, my question was, will EA/Bioware do a compatibility fix for ME2 games played on Windows 10?

I have the new Windows 10. The Mass effect Trilogy games worked very well for me except one MAJOR problem...I could not save any of the games! I hope there is a simple solution soon 'cause I really like to keep Win 10.

I just loaded Windows 10 from my Windows 7 (64 bit). Both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 ran perfectly (except I could not save Shepard at the end!). Here are the issues I had to resolve when loading WIN 10: One, wait until Microsoft loads ALL of its update before doing anything. Two, download your graphics driver (mine was NVidia). Three, verify that your game is located in Origin (This PC > Local Disk (c\Program Files (x86).Origin Games.Mass Effect 3.Binaries.Win32.MassEffect3). Four, run the game as Administrator (Most important for my situation).

Hi. I just installed Mass Effect 2 on my Win10 machine, and I cant save either. Not even the settings (graphics)... I tried running as admin, but then the game doesn't start, when I later tried running normal again, it won't start either. Any ideas?

It's not the game's fault that Windows 10 won't let it save. You haven't told Windows what to do, and it considers the game to be a rogue.

If you are using Origin, you can rename or move two files MassEffect2.exe and MassEffect2.par. Then let Origin repair files. This worked for me, and I am still running the latest Windows 10 betas.
