Mass Effect 2 Cannot Complete Assignments

UPDATED to follow the PC version  problem guidelines.

Game Version: Mass Effect Trilogy digital download from Origin. Not sure where to find the config utility to get the other data mentioned, but I only bought it about 2 weeks ago, so it should be pretty well current.

Note that I have no idea what most of this paragraph means; I'm just following the linked instructions from the sticky.

Processor/Speed/RAM: AMD A6-3400M APU, 4 GB RAM with 3.67 GB usable.

Display/VRAM/Driver: AMD Radeon (tm) HD 6520G

Sound/Driver: AMD High Definition Audio Device, Realtek High Definition Audio

OS: Windows 7 Home service pack 1

No idea how to find my DirectX version.

What is the nature of the problem you are seeing?

When I complete secondary missions, I get a message saying "press and hold F to return to the Normandy." However, when I hold it, nothing happens.

When did the problem start occurring?

About a week ago. At first I simply started backtracking to my shuttle, but I've now hit a mission where it won't allow me to do that anymore.

Where does your problem occur?

Anytime I have a secondary "away" assignment, that is, an assignment wherein I have to send a team off onto a planet/ship/etc and it does not automatically return to the ship when the mission is over.

What are the steps in replicating the problem?

I had finished clearing the area, grabbed the item I was supposed to be looking for, and was running around the cargo bay. I tried it when standing still, too.

Have you modified your game in any way?

No.

UPDATE: After surfing through the forum here for a bit, several suggestions led to me trying adjusting my graphics settings, in case my FPS was too high. Still doesn't help.

  • It could be because of a broken savefile. I would try first try and older save file to see if the mission is working in that. Secondly, scanning the harddrive for errors is always a good idea, all mechanical objects can make errors which in this case could result in a single file being written wrong: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-chkdsk/

  • The key you have to press is the melee attack key. The default is F, but the popup hint doesn't change if you rebind it.

I have tried remapping the key. By default, the F key is also the use/activate, draw weapon, melee attack, and secondary storm button--it works just fine for those. I have also tried reloading it from previous saves, including once when I entirely restarted the game to do so.

I haven't tried the CHKDSK thing yet, but I'm headed over to the thread right now to do so.

Finally got the chance to play some after checking the disk...still doesn't work.

Did make the N7 helmet at the Normandy crash show up, tho.
