Hi,I'm posting this here because my ticket on EA Support was deleted for no apparent reason. I had an issue before where my product key on Mass Effect 2 on Origin was not being accepted by social.bioware.com so I filed a ticket with support (Case Number 09871104). I reopened the ticket when their extra copy of ME2 that they gave me to allow me to register to social.bioware.com caused the game to stop functioning. I have tried uninstall/reinstall. I have tried removing the dlf license file and a clean reboot. I've also done a repair of the installation. It refuses to start with the above error. Can someone please help me.

I randomly started having this problem after playing the game for about 5 hours.Here's what worked for me:-Open Origin-In the menu, choose Origin > Application Settings-In the General tab, scroll all the way to the bottom and check "Update to the Beta Version when available"-Open the Origin menu again and select "Reload My Games"-After choosing this option, it started downloading a patch for Mass Effect 2 and asked me to apply the update-After applying the update, the game started with no problem.Happy Gaming!

Hi guys. I wasn't checking the forums anymore and I long finished Mass Effect 2. I didn't realize that there were people here suffering the wrath of EA's DRM BS.I don't know your circumstances in this so all I can do is explain how I managed to got mine working.I originally got ME2 on Origin and managed to get the game working. But the product key was not being accepted at social.bioware.com. The game DID start though so I just asked EA if they could do something. They supplied my with a SECOND ME2 copy. I used the cd key and just kept playing with the one I installed. Origin kept updating (for the second ME2 copy). It was trying to install another copy on top of mine and when it did, that's when I bumped into the problem. Days, weeks of figuring this out. This is my solution to the problem.I had the install of ME2 (from the new copy of the game). You can differentiate the copies by looking at the product keys of the game in Origin. The game would not work with this stupid license check. If I recall correctly, I shutdown Origin and then looked into some folder on EA licenses and deleted the license associated with ME2 (C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License\<something>.dlf). Then I turned Origin back on and then used the original copy of ME2 that ran on my laptop and let it Repair Install. It downloaded some additional stuff and installed. Then the game ran.I hope it helps you all. I don't know for sure and I make no guarantees it will work for all of you. Good luck and venture at your own risk. I risked it too.

I risked it too.First my story, I had bought the delux edition of Mass Effect 2 and it played with no problems whatsoever then my friend bought me the "Trilogy" for christmas then I installed everything but since I had the Delux Mass Effect 2 I didn't need to install the regular version but now ever since then nothing but Invalid License Reason Code = Invalid Cipher (0x0006) and I did those instructions of yours even trying un/reinstall several times to no avail.It's either that your instructions didn't work I I was doing it wrong and I'm hoping that I was doing it wrong.

I am getting this error on my ME2 Digital Deluxe version as well. I have an open case with "Specialist support" which has been ongoing for 2 weeks with no end in sight.

I should note I have a regular edition of ME2 registered on my Origin account and the issue only began after I downloaded the latest patch. I have tried everything suggested here, and have even gone as far as to try istalling on an alternate machine that has never run either Origin or ME2 with no success.

If I get a resolution, I'll post it here...

Thanks for the update, orpheus. From my latest info, this can't be resolved on the player side, and we should be able to assist from our end. I'll take a look to see what's holding up your ticket, too.

For what its worth, EA account support also promised me that a specialist would contact me about my issue. I never got a response nor any inkling of any hints. I am lucky to have fixed it myself but there are many others suffering from this. My experience would leave me to believe that this happens when ME2 detects a different authorized CD key... or for others who have only a single copy of ME2, maybe an invalid CD key.
Lastly, I tried hard to find where this specialist support ticket tracker is and could not for the life of me find it. I hope that someone from EA posts the link to help out the guy here who are unable to play and wish to file tickets.

Having the same damn issue ... could not register ME 2 on BSN, contacted support, friendly help in chat, given new cd-key, then cluster****. ... registered the new key with BSN at least ....
Same message keeps popping up. Fun thing is, I uninstalled and then reinstalled ME2 using the "new" game icon/copy of the game that appeared in Origin (as instructed), but the ME2ConfigUtility still displays the "old" cd-key.

Both copies display different cd-keys in properties ... utility only finds the "old" one (though uninstalled).

Has anyone gotten a fix for this problem? I just purchased the Digital Deluxe version and regardless of what I do (deleting the License files, uninstall/reinstall, setting up new administrator account) I am still getting the error

Try installing using the old copy of ME2. That's how I got mine to work.

You're only chance is to contact support. Only they can help you. I'm not holding my breath though.

Short of formatting I tried everything I could think of or they could think of. Honestly, my impression is that the customer support doesn't quite read the message history and at some point it becomes really annoying to repeat ad nauseam all the things you experienced and tried ...
Ended up saving a god damn message template detailing what happens, the cd-keys involved, what they asked me to try so far and so on.
Even spent some 2 hrs manually hunting registry keys associated with the game / Origin and deleting them ... hundreds of gigs downloading the games after each uninstall ... and I think I might have chipped a tooth gnashing in frustration 🙂.
After 5 days, I got this: "Thank you for getting back to us.We genuinely apologize for the inconvenience as you are still not being able to access any game (ME 1 or ME 2). Your case has been escalated to specialized team. Please be advised that issues like the one you encountered may take some time to resolve. With the assistance of specialized team, we hope to have this issue resolved for you as quickly as possible. We would ask for your continued patience while we make every effort to fix this problem for you, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will be back in contact with you once we are in a position to update you further."
I hope I'll hear from this (elusive) specialised team ... Else I'd better thrown the money out the window ...

Believe me. I know the feeling. I didn't get any help at all and support just kept closing my tickets. I got lucky with mine. I don't know if I'll get lucky again if I ever revisit it, but I'm thankful to have finished the game at least.
If you've tried what I've done (I know you said you've tried a lot of stuff), then... I can offer you no other insight.

I know mate, it's ok. Looks to me like an account issue with DRM or something.
I installed Origin on another machine (never touched by this platform before 🙂, I can vouch for that) with XP SP3, tried to run the games but no cookie. ME1 will not start (forgot to say I have a problem with that one too :D - simply won't start and no CD-key shows in the Game properties) and ME2 will not start either, no matter which I install ("old" ME2 - the one I bought or the "new" ME2 - the one they put in my account). With both installed, same "Invalid License ... ".
Nothing I can further do but wait and hope ... or go berserk and start spamming the internetz !!! :D
