Mass Effect 3 randomly minimises

Hello,

I am uncertain if anyone else has had this problem, but over the past week or so, when I play ME3, it will randomly minimizes back to my desktop. It doesn't crash, it just minimizes.  I have searched around to see if I could come up with a solution, with no joy. It seems the only way I can play the game is in windowed mode. It's kinda frustrating.

Does anyone else have this problem, or shed some light as to a potential fix.

Thanks,

N7CaptainObvious

  • My money is on software running in the background. I used to have issues like these with AVG Antivirus, which is why I switched to Avast (though they're now owned by the same company).

See if disabling your antivirus fixes this. Otherwise try a clean boot. This launches Windows with a minimum of software.

  • Thanks for your quick response.

I did a clean boot, my antivirus software isn't an issue at all. I still have no joy on the game.

    I corrected that.

Did you checked if your antivirus software was truly disabled at the clean boot? A lot of Anti virus programs can't be disabled with a clean boot.

The way you described it is almost certainly a background app that forces ME3 out of full-screen and @Fred_vdp is absolutely right that this could be caused by a antivirus software.

Is this also happen if you go to borderless windowed mode?

Another option if not your Anti-Virus/Firewall is Microsoft Office if you use that.

A recent update to Office has done something and if you use Office you may have noticed every hour a command prompt window very briefly opening and closing (like a split second, it's quick but noticable). This is also causing some games to minimise when it happens (some even crash).

If you do use Office and you think this may be what is causing it there is a fix here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_officeinsider-mso_win10/officebackgroundtaskhandlerregistration-flashes-a/2600497e-78e4-41a1-9040-461cd2c3ea13
