Mass Effect: Legendary Edition - ME1 Cutscene Bug Eden Prime

There is one other post about this, but the only reply is my own. I'm making a new post in hopes that it will catch someone else's attention since the other post was made in May 2021.

Basically, the last two times I've played through the Eden Prime mission in the first game, where the cutscenes should be, there is only a grey screen. I can still hear the weapon fire, dialogue, etc., but there is no picture. The first two times I played through the first game, this bug wasn't present. Everything worked and was shown perfectly. The last time, it was only the scene between Nihlus and Saren that was greyed out. But this playthrough, the scene where Ashley is introduced was also just a grey screen, and I'm worried that the rest of the mission will also show greyed out cutscenes.

Does anyone have any solutions? I've tried quitting the game and then relaunching it. I've tried just reloading, and I've tried deleting older, unimportant saves to see if that helped, but nothing has worked thus far. Any cutscene where I need to make dialogue choices seem to be fine, but the others (again, only on Eden Prime) are glitched. Is this just some sort of bug that needs to be patched with no other way to fix it, or is there something wrong with my game?

*Edit: The scene between Nihlus and Saren played fine this time, so I don't know what the issue is. Any ideas or solutions would be welcome, but there doesn't seem to be any consistency to the bug. So.

If you on a PC, try to repair the game.

(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > Game Library > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

  • I am using EA App to play Mass Effect 1 and was having the same issue with cutscenes. Even the startup intro scenes were playing poorly. I did the "Repair" option in EA App and it redownloaded some files, then when I launched the game the cutscenes are working fine now..

My binkw32.dll file was corrupted and THAT was causing all bink vids to be corrupt.
