There is no autosave after the battle. The last place you can create a save is at the hatch outside the council chambers.
Picking the human councilor at the end is quite widely known for not being saved in the file and they added an entire scene onboard the shuttle with Miranda and Jacob where you get to pick the councilor again because of that.
The decision to save the council or not is the last thing saved to your character, but not in a normal autosave.
The final save file the game creates at the end is not a normal save you can use to load the game. The game will create a "char" save in another folder. You can check if it exists by trying to import a Shepard in a new game or in me2.
