ME1 LE: Converting to Omni-gel takes away controls, game restart needed

Hi all, I've found a gamebreaking Inventory issue in the Xbox version of ME1 LE.

If you convert items to Omni-gel while standing on an item marked for breakdown, sometimes the selection does not drop to an available item, or it does not clear the selection if no items are remaining.

Instead, it tries to select this placeholder null item:

I haven't been able to directly reproduce the bug. It seemed to happen when I marked 5-10 items as junk, then broke them all down, while standing on the last item on the list. It felt like it couldn't compute the "jump" to highlight the nearest avaliable item on the list. This happened twice, but when I tried it the third time, the bug did not happen.

The problem is, this makes all your controls unavailable, the only way to solve it is completely shutting the game down from Xbox dashboard. It's highly annoying, since I've just did a whole squad micromanagement (equipping gear & mods), then tried to get rid of any remaining items, but this meant dumping the whole process...

  • I have also found an inconsistency in how item breakdown works.

If you mark items as junk, press the omni-gel button while standing on an item that isn't marked, select the option to dismantle all junk, then the actively highlighted item will not be dismantled alongside the junk items.

However, if you do the same with mods, the currently highlighted item will also be converted into omnigel - you can even lose your actively equipped mod that way.

  • +1. Can also reproduce this. I find it much easier to reproduce when mass converting upgrades to omni-gel. 2/2 times, when converting probably more than 15 upgrades at once. When it happens, an "undefined" text appears in the screen, and controls become unresponsive.

  • Yep, I've never had this happen with single-item breakdowns.

I avoided breaking all items down at once, if I had e.g. 16 shotguns, I only marked 15 for breakdown, so the selection could jump to an actual item, then I broke it down separately. That seemed to help the situation, though it makes an already horrible system even more of a chore.

Thanks for posting this, @felker_s. Super detailed description of how to replicate this, much appreciated!
