ME1 Low FPS on PC (Steam - NVIDIA RTX 3070)

As title states, I'm getting super low FPS on Mass Effect 1 (haven't tried the other 2 but it seems to be a a problem with 1). The game starts nicely, but about 5 minutes in the fps go down the toil...

    Thanks for your replies!

I managed to fix it. For me it wasn't the overlay, disabling it in all ways available (Origin settings and the game's properties) didn't prevent it from showing up when pressing the shortcut to show it.

I tried a number of things, disabled the Steam overlay, set the ME1 exe file to run at high performance (link to instructions below), but what I think actually fixed it was unplugging either my old controller or changing my wireless keyboard for a wired one. I heard the game had some issues with peripherials, specifically things Windows recognizes as controllers and things that use Bluetooth. No idea why, it really shouldn't consume resources needed to run a game, but apparently they do.

I re-enabled the Steam overlay to be able to take screenshots, and it's still running properly.

Here's the link that shows how to force an application to run on high performance settings:
