I find this a lot more problematic in ME2.
In ME3, it is just frustrating that I am unable to try out a huge percentage of the available arsenal. Still, I don't need more than one armor set to best complement my playstyle & class, and all I need is one decent weapon from each category so I can outfit any squad member in case I am stuck with them (e.g. Tali being locked for two Rannoch missions).
In ME2 however, many of the upgrades affecting Shepard and the whole squad are locked behind a huge credit wall. It really sucks playing on Insanity and not being able to buy the tech power upgrades for 75k for example, when my squad's focus is exactly that.
It was already bad in OG ME2, but now they've just put even more items to the store to "balance out gameplay"... And they reverted the credit import changes to their original value with one of the updates. It's like they have no idea about their own game's systems.
