MEA: Recruiting and Dismissing Crew Members

I wish Mass Effect would give us the option of selecting our crew members, instead of having a preset crew. I would love to be able to throw Cora out of the airlock, with all of her need a plan BS. And it would be cool to be able to hire/recruit an Exile, or maybe even promote someone from my Apex team. I know there is an issue of conversation/banter, but I'm thinking generic stuff would work (all ex-Outcasts say the same thing, all ex-Collective say the same thing, all ex-pirates say the same thing, all non gang affiliated ex-exiles say the same thing, all ex-Resistance say the same thing, all ex-Apex say the say thing, all krogan colonists say the same thing, and all non apex human/krogan/asari/turian initiative say the same thing). Even just add 1 additional crew slot that we can recruit and dismiss that crew member would be * awesome!

While I can see this being cool with having an extra team member or three for variety, the unique crew members would offer unique dialogue. Just like you said, you'd end up using a "default" for all Exiles, Angara, etc etc. With the amount of interaction that typically happens between crew members while you run around and doing quest, you'd have to REALLY limit it for these extras...which would mean repeated dialogue that gets old quick...and honestly? We get plenty of that already when trying to talk to our current crew members in hope they have something insightful to say.

Although....Cora does get on my nerves sometimes, so I agree with you there. XD Its like she wants to be like Miranda, but she forgot to read her manual.

  • Well as much as we dislike certain characters, ME is the kind of game that thrives on character development, hours of planning, scripts, animations go into creating just one character, if they allow hiring and firing of the crew, the game will change, and it will be like a XCom rather than ME.  There's always the option of ignoring Cora if you dont like her, dont speak with her. Dont use her on your missions.  I personally dislike addison, so if a quest requires me to speak with her I will just press skip all the way to the end and press goodbye.

It seems to me that a lot of work has gone into the Companion story lines/loyalty missions. I guess they would be hesitant to have to make more of these just so people can throw them out. In the end they want to make content that people actually use.

So if you want replaceable companions, would you then accept that the companion missions would be scrapped or a lot shorter/simpler? Cause in the end I think what you want will have as a consequence that the companions will have to take the back seat more in the game. I see it as a choice between quality and quantity, since I don't expect we'll still get the same level of quality if they'd go for higher numbers of companions.

Quality wins ! They already struggle enough to give chars and romances depth.

  • Cora always struck me as in denial she claims to be straight but is super gay for her Asari mentor i was like gee really get married already

The whole "let me resolve your crisis of faith with a joke and a hug" after making Sarissa and the Asari commandos every other line she says was a little weird. I don't know why she didn't fly apart like an unbalanced gyroscope. I did like Drack's bit of banter support afterwards.

I wouldn't want to dismiss any of them because watching their characters interact throughout the game is every bit as interesting as watching me interacting - and are a little better scripted since they channel both sides. Picking just a couple to take on a mission is recruiting and dismissing after a fashion. I like mixing them up just to hear the banter - even when I'd be better off selecting for mission by skillset.

I'm not particularly crazy about Liam - but it would of been a shame not to hear his banter, or miss out on his loyalty mission, or movie night, because I made him spend the game stuck on the Nexus/Hyperion.

You can admire someone and their achievements without wanting to jump into bed with them.

I defend and talk Ryder up on a daily basis but I am straight and have no interest in bedding her. 😅😅😅
