Most disliked location

Hoping this doesn't attract a bunch of negativity but as I play through the series I was curious, are there are any locations you just hate in general?

Across the trilogy there were some locations that were annoying but in the whole series only one location made me want to quit the game, I think it was called Havarl, that jungle planet in andromeda.

Good lord in heaven I almost threw my controller into the ocean. it's the only location i vividly remember in that game, basically a labyrinth with unclear quest markers leading me in circles trying to find where the heck i am meant to go. The enemies that seemed to spawn every 5 metres on the main roads so it was impossible (or at least incredibly difficult) to move around the map without  getting jumped and EVERY SINGLE TIME i went into a ruin or temple or whatever they were the enemies would respawn. I just remember cleaning the same enemies like a dozen times because they camped on the main road. Then i would try to go offroad to avoid enemies and get glitches into rock formations and need to reload.

I bring this up purely to ask, please for the love of god don't do this again in ME5. Or if you must have a labyrinth/tightly packed location, give us a way to traverse without fighting the same camps over and over and ensure those markers point out the entrance before leading you further in to the quest, dont just mark the destination and let us figure out how to get there.

  • I have a very different opinion. I think Havarl is the best planet in Andromeda because it has the best quest design.

My least favourite planet in Andromeda (and least liked area in the series) is Kadara, because it feels too much like an MMORPG, and not a good one. Too many menial sidequests, too much backtracking, too much driving around. It also has those doors in the hub world that take too long to open.

  • It's Alchera for me...cold, lonely, quiet, depressing quest. That said the only thing I might change about it is to allow at least one squadmate.

I also very much like Havarl.

Reasons are the Quest design as Freed said, but also the planet itself, the atmosphere and look.

It is not easy to navigate sometimes, but that is a problem whit the markers and map and not a problem of the location.
I also never encountered any glitches offside the main path, and I almost never used the main path.

My least forsterite location in all Mass Effect games is Canalus from the ME2 N7: Anomalous Weather Detected quest.

  • Oh, I quite liked Alchera. Had the introspective solitude that walking the remains of the ship, and place where Shepard hit the dirt, should have. In my opinion.

The picking up the tags did feel a little more like making sure the player went around the area and saw the environment that the designers put together (and honestly, fair enough).

I would have loved the memorial to be not the awful baked copper colour haha

I ran in circles on Ilos, in the part before you get the gates open for the Mako. I'm not sure if I'm mad at the environment or at myself, though.

Least favourite levels are the ones where it's basically 'drive Mako in unidirectional path and shoot at big rocket friends'. The Overlord DLC where you could at least glide around nonlinearly-ish with the Hammerhead was pretty rad.

I generally had a lot of fun playing these games, and I'm having a ball getting back to them with LE. I suppose the thing that stands out the most is 'waist height cover' syndrome. I know mechanically it's useful for players, but the big ol rocks just felt like they could have been left in ME1. The places where you're using seating, balustrades, shelves etc, as cover feel a lot more integrated.

It's super nit picky, but on a first play through, it would be cool (or awful, ymmv) to enter a space and not have a big glaring hint that an enemy is going to shoot at you 😛
