I'm willing to bet that the answer to all of these questions is tied to the Benefactor. Check out a bunch of Benefactor threads here. Of course given that there is a deputy assistant for revenue management, indicating that this venture was intended to MAKE money, may give us a guide to whom we are dealing with.

I thought Lexi had figured some of it out as neurological issues from the type of long term stasis that the Initiative used for the trip to Andromeda?
