New Shepard Story

Hello, dear Mass Effect players and Devs!

  • Firstly I’d like to thank everyone who worked/is working on wonderful ME Universe, both Devs and players, and made it what it is. An incredible adventure filled with action, romance and adrenaline. Even thou the game had some ups and downs, it is, in my honest opinion, one hell of a trilogy and universe, one of the best I ever played. And I would love for Mass Effect to continue with a new story and even a new trilogy. I’d like to share some of my ideas that I have for new story and opinion on ME3 Ending as well as read your thoughts about my ideas. Please note that English is not my first language and I apologize for any grammar mistakes. And sorry for long post, I can’t put all that I feel and think about this game/universe in few sentences.

  • I believe that most of us would want new Mass Effect, this time set in Milky Way Galaxy right after the ending of ME3. So, speaking of ending, there were multiple choices at the end and Bioware should choose one and stick with it as canon. And it should be “Red” ending or Shepard destroying the Reapers and surviving in the end (Just my opinion). I support the theory of ‘Shepard indoctrination’ and I think that Shepard managed to resist it and destroy the Reapers in the end. New game would be, in my opinion, open world with ability to land on every/most planets and moons and explore them as we try to uncover points of interest, side quests, minerals, resources etc. We can upgrade our ship with better weapons, more shield/armor, all depending on how we want our ship to look. There would also be more, ‘relaxed’ parts of the game, such as throwing party’s for crew, hanging out etc. Just like you could do it on ME3 in the Anderson’s apartment. It would be nice to have a chat with friends and laugh while preparing for new missions. Love Interest option should be “upgradable” to marriage if one chooses so. In my opinion it adds depth to the game and you get more attached to characters and you care about them even more. It should be single player game, no co-op, as that is what made original ME games so popular because of all decisions that you make and the impact it has on whole story through all three games, also no multiplayer is needed for any sort of progress, just original Mass Effect experience that we all love. That way we can have unique relationship with characters during the game, some friendly some not.

  • New game would start right after Shepard takes a breath. We wake up somewhere among the rubbles in London and try to crawl our way out of that, barely alive we get out of there and one of Alliance soldiers/patrols spots Shepard and comes to aid. They report that they have found Commander Shepard and is in need of immediate medical support. Shuttle arrives with help and they take him to hospital and begin multiple surgeries to help him (Similar to ME2 intro, just without implants and Cerberus). Shepard survives in the end and is resting in hospital. Soon the news about him reach Normandy and it’s crew and they rush to see and meet with Shepard. We wake up in hospital after months of coma and surgeries and see all of our crew from previous game and our Love Interest (Ashley for me) around the bed happily looking and cheering that Shepard is alive. We talk about what happened and do some catching up on what’s going on and then spend some time with romantic choice about all that’s been going on and maybe Shepard can choose to propose to his/her Love Interest to marry them since they think that war is finally over, but something new is coming. After that, we go through rehabilitation process and also learn new game mechanics etc. (‘Rehabilitation process’ would be some sort of tutorial on combat, movement and such things). Finally Shepard is fully healed and back in action. That would be the intro/prologue to the game.

  • Basically Bioware explain what ending is canon and what happened to Shepard in the end and how he was saved. We know that Stargazer in the end told the child that there is one more story to tell him, hinting at another ME game/story (Not Andromeda, another story about Shepard).

  • One of the ideas that I have for new games would be that after Reapers were destroyed and races started to rebuild and get their strength back some old hostilities would rise. Like several Krogan clans would want a revenge on Salarians and Turians. Since Quarians now have their homeworld back and got rid of Geth (Remember, red ending killed all synthetics) they would start to build massive armies and fleets which would worry Council about their rising strength as they did not allowed them to land on any planet and thus they lived on ships. And in major plot, a single Rachni queen could’ve survived somehow and since Reapers are dead and other species weakened, it could start laying down whole armies and even fleets to invade everyone. Add to that Aria T'loak and her clans which would raid other systems for resources. Shepard and his/her crew would need to deal with all of that.

  • War with the Reapers might have ended, but war, greed…it never changes. There will always be someone who will want to rule the Galaxy no matter the cost, either seeking revenge or conquest and that could be some plot for new games. Maybe even new synthetics that would be created by someone (as that child VI said, your children will build synthetics and basically history would repeat itself, just without Reapers this time) and they would want to turn against their creators and start an all - out war (thou that plotline would seem to similar to ME3).

  • We could also have remaster of original Mass Effect trilogy, it would be all combined into one single game. With updated graphics, gameplay mechanics, more missions and events and one canon ending. I know that EA is not for remaster of their studios games, but if they do this it should be more then just graphics and gameplay mechanics update. We would need new missions, places to explore and different choices to make, all leading to that one ‘real’ ending. And then new game would come out that would continue story. Just my opinion on what is all possible with this awesome universe of Mass Effect.

  • I’d love to hear what do you, fellow fans, think about what I wrote. I’m no expert writer or anything but those are some ideas and hopes that I have for this franchise. It might not be the best ideas, but that’s what I’d like to hear from you. Your ideas about new story etc. If this was interesting at all, I’d love to write much more detailed information about story and similar things. I might be a big dreamer about things that I’ve written but what are we if don’t dream and hope?

  • Stay awesome and stay strong everyone, Maxsam out!

Actually, imho that would be pretty boring and also not very inspiring.

Bioware did stated clearly that they will not announce a canon ending for ME3, and I think that is a good thing, everything else would diminish the choices of many gamer, and for the rest you wrote, well, we basically had all that already in the trilogy.

Don't get me wrong, I admire your passion for Mass Effect, and I get why you want a sequel of the original trilogy, but Bioware also stated clearly that Shepard story is over and imho that is a good thing.

No sequel to the trilogy could have the same fascination as the original, and since the reapers have been defeated, there is no enemy imaginable that would even be remotely so frightening and therefore could drive a interesting story.
As said, it is impossible to continue the trilogy without a official canon ending, which by itself would harm the original games tremendous.

The mere repetition of the trilogy in slightly different environments, with the same characters and story elements, would please some hardcore fans, but it wouldn't be enough for a successful game and could even diminish the legacy of the trilogy.

Hi, first thing, thank you for reading whole thing i wrote. Indeed, i am big fan of Mass Effect and i believe it has big potential to continue and succeed again. I was reading somewhere that Bioware said that "things are warming back up" (maybe new game is in pre-production) when it comes to ME. Now, i don't know if that was some PR stuff or not, but they should most definitely consider new ME game that, at least, ties with original ME series. I'm not sure about what would story be exactly, but i do know they could come up with something.

Again, in my opinion, they should come with canon ending because then new games would make sense. Like you said, all three games were about Reaper threat and since first game we wanted everyone to know about Reapers and find a way to destroy them. So, following that logic, it would make sense that canon ending would be to choose to destroy them. Because, why would you want to control them or even combine synthetics and humans? Deciding to control them or synthesis everyone would be against what everyone wanted. No one on his squad or whole Galaxy would want that. Whole point was to destroy them and end that threat.

What am i trying to say is that, if BioWare wants to continue ME, they should choose canon ending and go on from there. What would new games be about? I really don't know, like you said, we've been all over the galaxy did all sort of stuff, but it doesn't mean that there's nothing left to do. Surly they can come up with something that players would love and find interesting. Reapers were main story and threat of original series, but something new can take place for new games.

If not Milky Way galaxy then maybe combine Milky Way with Large and small Magellanic cloud. They could contain some new big threat after the Reapers are destroyed. Just my opinion.

It would be hard for Bioware to make new trilogy that would stand up to the original, but not impossible. They need to focus on new and inspiring story, which is hard, you pointed that out nicely,  but they could come up with something.

Again, no offense, i really appreciate your comment and fact that you've read my post, and you are correct on some stuff regarding new games, but i'm sure that they could make something as equal as first three games. Hard...but possible.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age are really awesome games/universes and it would be shame to just leave them were they are at the moment.

Andromeda, imho, was interesting idea, but not for a game. Rather some book, movie or something.

Shepard's story could go on if they can come up with equally good story as with Reapers.  Thank you again, for reading and sorry for long text.
